Washing machine recommendations anyone? John lewis vs Bosch...

So the washing machine that came with our house has finally decided to die, after nearly 8 years of abuse from us DH put a ridiculously MASSIVE load in which seems to have killed it

I know Miele is the MN favourite, but really cannot stretch to that sort of price. I've seen Bosch recommended on here, and I'm also looking at John Lewis own brand.

What do I really NEED though? There's four of us; me, DH, DS (6) and DD (4). We try to dry outside as much as possible, otherwise on an airer/radiators so I'm thinking high spin is better? Having said that, I don't iron unless absolutely necessary so not too creased is also good.

Anyone have any words of wisdom for me? Sage advice?

Could do with deciding before the mountain of washing reaches Everest proportions!

We got a new 9kg beko recently. I wanted a bosch but as the in laws paid we took the cheaper but in other ways identical machine. It's been great, we love it.

I've just thrown out my bosch after only 3 years if use. Im never buying one again. Buy yhe one from john lewis.

Whatever you buy make sure you have a time remaining indicator. I hate that mine doesn't have one as I keep thinking it'll just finish in a minute so I delay going out and then it spins for another three hours. Bastarding machine.

Both those have it, so that's not much help I guess.

I've got a slightly older model of the John Lewis one. It's about 7 years old and still going on. Pleased with the spin and it gets a fair amount in it (not an excuse for over cramming though for your DH!)

No complaints here with the JL one at all!

Great advice, thanks everyone. Is there much difference between 1200 and 1400 rpm spin? The JL 1400 one is on offer, so leaning towards that, but slightly less Eco (I guess because uses more electricity??) does it make much difference?

Bosch all the way. I have an ancient one that I bought second hand and apart from a quick, cheap repair recently it's given me 6 years with no hassle whatsoever. We're a 2-3 loads/day household.

No time remaining indicator but I don't really need one if I check the time I switch it on as I know how long the wash cycles take.

Whichever has the longer warrenty. I have JL everything exactly because of that.
A washing machine gets a lot of use in a family of 4 or 5 and I need to know that repairs are free for a long time. A5year guarantee period is my preference.

My Bosch is 14yo and still going strong (touch wood) - only been repaired once in all that time. And it cleans really really well too.

Bad experiences with JL machines. Never again. And I wouldn't buy via JL again either, shocking customer service last time.

Hmm, I think JL has really gone down hill in terms of their own stuff recently. I bought a JL vaccuum cleaner to replace a Miele one that finallt broke. On paper they looke very similar but it is RUBBISH! I practically have to pick up any bits of fluff and feed the vaccum. On this basis I would never buy one of their own appliances.

I also had dreadful customer experience when I ordered a dishwasher through them recently, fianlly cancelled the order and got the same model for the same price, next day delivery from Appliance Online. Can't fault them, so I would recommend you take a look. Also had a fridge/freezer from AO this year ( everything seems to have gone kaput in the last year after about 9 years service... been an expensive year!)

I would go Bosch rather than JL any day but when we got ours we ended up with AEG because of the better drum size. It has a timer and its fantastic :-)

My Bosch is 10 years old and fine although getting a bit noisy now. Had a few DIY repairs but I like it.

I do like JL's 3 year warranty but, I agree, that their customer service is not what it should be. Had to get a JL oven repaired recently and it took repeating what was wrong with it to 4 different people, and 2 call-outs (staying in all day) before it was "fixed" It's now got another fault. Am disappointed tbh.

I have an AEG tumble drier and it's great but it cost a lot to repair - the repair guy said Bosch appliances are cheaper to repair as the parts are more modular.

I've got a Bosch, had it two years and it's fantastic. What swayed it was that it came from JL but had a free five year guarantee with it (I just had to register it over the phone direct with Bosch).

I think you need to clarify exactly what you want in a machine.....I like a timer/count down so I know how long it's got left to go, child lock, hand wash cycle, quick wash. Mine has a 1200 spin which is enough as I tend to mostly put everything through the 20 min quick wash then spin it again as it's quicker, and cheaper, than a longer hotter wash (quick wash is 40 degrees). Oh, and I like being able to adjust the settings for each wash!

On the other hand, my mum has just bought a JL own machine and loves it!!

We have a bosch Classixx and it's great. we use it with 1-3 daily loads (we cloth nappy which increases the usage somewhat) and it's coped admiringly over time and things always seem to get clean. Ours is seven years old and no issues yet.....oh and it's the 1400 rpm spin model which is great as gets the clothes really quite dry whenthey come out (so airer hanging means less moisture to get into the air).
Wouldn't go back to a model with less than 1400 rpm spin!

6 YO bosch still going strong here. I'd get the 1400 rpm model if I were you.
