Memory foam? Pocket sprung? Open coil or latex? Do you have experience - good or bad - of any of these? Thanks.

I have recently purchased a mattress after dithering on which type to buy for 9 months!

We had a latex mattress from ikea, which became uncomfortable to sleep on after 5 years use (waking up with aches & pains). We bought a memory foam mattress but found it way too hot to sleep on although it was comfortable, so we sent it back. Finally decided on a John Lewis pocket sprung mattress which we have had for over a month now and it's bliss!

Good luck with your search Smile

Thanks for your replies. Wonky, do you find it hot? Like Innopartic said, I have heard they can be too hot?

We don't find it too hot however we do use it with a fab breathable goose feather duvet.
The one in our spare room with a synthetic duvet is warmer and we only use a thin low tog duvet with it the majority of the year.

My mermory foam mattress is very hot. Even getting up to go to the loo doesnt cool it down which is handy in winter, just rubbish in summer.

My DS overheats at night so ive just bought him a memory foam mattress with cool gel on the top. He says its great and I have noticed he doesnt sweat as much as he did so it must be good.

Got visprung pocket spring matterss - they are amazing. 8 years and still as avoid as new - expensive but we fit ours half in sale. Posture wise very good (we have medium) and no issues at a with temperature. Only issue is moving it - really heavy but made to last so you get what you pay for. Happy sleeping!

We also had an Ikea one which we chucked after three years due to back pain and sagging mattress. Got a pocket sprung one from Feather and Blacks and it's wonderful. Cost a fortune, but still using it give years one and feels as good as new!

I have memory foam at the moment and will be changing to a pocket sprung once I've got some spare cash! I find the foam one very hot and DP gets backache. It feels very different when you sleep on it to how it felt in the shop.

We moved into DSS's room/bed whilst we had our room done up (he was away!)
I'm v glad we did because I got to test drive a memory foam mattress for about 6 weeks and learned that I hated it, made me v sweaty.
Went to John Lewis and tried out all the non memory foam matresses after that & found one that suited us.
