Leaving washing on the line overnight....

I've been on a washing mission today and put the last load on the line at around 4ish. It's not dry and so not likely to be by tonight.

I was brought up being told that 'one does not leave their washing on the line overnight' I know damn well my mum would tut at me for doing so but I really can't be arsed to drag my heavily pregnant arse of the sofa to get it in then hang it back out in the morning!!

Someone please tell me that the neighbourhood isn't going to be whispering about my poor womanhood skills!! :D

I bought a covered washing line so leave stuff out for days/weeks sometimes.

My grandmama wouldn't put washing out on a Sunday but she was chapel....

Leave it out - its warm !

I know you're not supposed to do this, but we do if we know it's going to be dry and we'll only have to stick it all out again in the morning. Not if we have guests, though. Fortunately my neighbours are the kind of people who really couldn't care less.

I always say to DH (completely tongue in cheek btw) "look at Jane and her slovenly ways with her pants out over night on the line."

I've only ever heard of this on mumsnet! My washing is out on the line now and so is my next door neighbours. No point in bringing it in only to take it out again in the morning!

My neighbour always leaves her washing out. Makes me feel much better about doing the same :)

I think this falls into the category of things people wouldn't do in times gone by, like wearing a dress without an underslip. As long as you are confident that no one will nick your knickers I would go for it. I've done it myself a couple of times this summer and I know what you mean, I felt like my Mum and Grandma would be disappointed in my actions
It's not going to rain, your time is best spent relaxing with your bump.

I don't have a washing line. All mine goes in the dryer.

but why aren't you supposed to? I often hang wet washing outside in the evening, if I know it's due to be sunny the next day as I never have time to hang it out before work.

In fact my machine has just finished a load and seeimg as it's the weekend I might just leave it in the machine all night

I never do.

For a start, I don't want my washing sopping with dew in the morning, if it is half dry now.

Spider/bird poo issues would also bother me. My line often develops webs overnight.

So my last load of washing came in at eight and is waiting by the back door to go out again first thing.

Sometimes I leave washing out long enough to dry, then have a second rise in the rain. (thorough)

I've not long hung some out. I know It's going to be hot tomorrow so reckon it makes sense. Easier to do it now than in the morning when DS awake.

I have in the past left some washing out and it rained.....for days...I was determined not the get the washing in until it was dry!! Lol

I don't get the bird poo thing, birds fly and shit more during the day than they do at night when they've gone to roost (just don't have your line under a tree)

Obviously it won't get wet given the current heatwave, but during wetter weather I don't mind if it gets a soaking and takes a bit longer to dry; the rainwater softens the fabric.

I do it all the time, never had any problems with bird poo or spiders and to be honest until I came on MN I had no idea that I was risking the neighbours tutting at me (I'm sure mine don't though). Never had a problem with dew either, it only ever seems to be slightly damp in the morning and then dries in no time if it is sunny or breezy or both.

I've just started putting mine out over night and it's been great on these lovely few days, Some of my washing was dry by the time I had finished the school run. I am converted.
