Cat pissed on the sofa... grrr.

I love my cat but the little sod has pissed on the sofa (more than once) and it's a bit whiffy, the (ahem) aroma is wafting around the room.

It's a fabric sofa with fitted covers, so can only be cleaned in situ by professionals - I've had this done a few times. I've also tried dousing it in Simple Solution to no real avail (it doesn't seem to seep deep enough into the seat cushions).

Any tips on salvaging the sofa?

Can I soak it in vinegar solution or anything else? I know I need to get rid of the source, rather than just mask it.

maybe try sprinking bicarb of soda over the damp bit? I think that might absorb the smell. or hopefully someone else will come along with a better suggestion!

My elderly cat is a nightmare for this.

The only thing that has worked for me is a bio washing powder solution applied liberally, but you might want to do a patch test first as it might discolour the fabric.

We now keep her out of the living room at night and when we are out, but if she does manage to get at the sofa the bio powder completely gets rid of the smell.

Thenks theapricotmess, will try giving the chsions a good dousing in that (they're cream, so not worried about discolouration).

OneLaundryBasket - just realised! Yes, she might as well be a steaming drunk with her random pissing and sprawled-out-snoring through!
