Two dishwashers - would this make like easier or not?

Have been without a dishwasher for 18 months now and reckon it is just as quick to wash by hand. The time taken to rinse, stack, empty DW is same as washing and leaving on drainer to dry. However I am bored with seeing all washing up on show - so had the idea to buy two - as it is the same stuff that goes in every day and gets dragged out to be stored and the dragged out to be used again. We have a big family (4 kids) and use at least one full load per day. So thought that it might work to have 2 so when one load was done - you use everything from that dishwasher for the day - so you have one that is clean and one that is dirty at anyone time. Can anyone see any flaws with this?

Stacking and unstacking is pretty quick I find. A decent dishwasher means as long as the plates are emptied, no rinsing required. Well, ime, anyway, never rinsed a thing in all the years I have owned a dishwasher.

You would need space to have two, somewhere near existing pipes for easy of installing.

Also, from experience at work where we have more than one, on the basis that one will contain dirty and clean, it fails because people don't check. They just stack regardless.

I have four kids and DH and I are sociable people with big families. On the weekends we feed at least 12 people for at least one meal, and often more. We put in two dishwashers when we redid our kitchen this year and it is FANTASTIC. I couldn't go back. We put them on either side of a double sink with the cutlery and crockery drawers beside each dishwasher in a long run. Fantastic. If you have room for them I wouldn't hesitate!

rinsing things before putting them in the dishwasher is keeping a dog and barking yourself. Just scrape the food off (or serve less = less waste) and put them straight in.

a full dishwasher load with a modern dishwasher uses less water and energy than washing by hand. And unless your kids are baby quadruplets, surely at least one is able to help?

tbh if I had the space for 2 dishwashers (and x4 DC's) I would consider having 2 washing machines instead (if you haven't done so already).

I lived in a house of 6 and we had 2 washing machines, it was very good. I have 3 DC's and will get 2 washing machines again when I get the chance.

We rented a holiday cottage for 12 people that had 2 dishwashers.

It was fab! Use one, no need to bother emptying and putting away, just take from the clean one, use and put into the other one. When that is full, wash and reverse. Perfect!

A friend has one and they are amaaaaazing. Sadly also cheaper in NZ, where she lives and they are made.

Cut out rinsing for a start ( most dishwashers have a rinse cycle).

Get your DCs to empty the dishwasher.

It doesn't take the same amount of time at all, how could it? You still have to collect dishes next to the sink and put it away once drained, which literally takes the same amount of time as filling and emptying the dishwasher, except you do the dishwasher in one go once a day or once every 2 days rather than every single fucking mealtime. So the actual washing time takes longer because with a dishwasher you don't have to do that part.

I just scrape stuff and occasionally rinse or soak but my dishwasher is about 20 years old and doesn't cope well with really dried on stuff.

Plus if you empty as soon as the stuff is dry then you can hide all of the dirty washing in it rather than having it on show.

Have you ever seen one of those cupboards above a sink that is a draining rack? they are common in Italy and Spain. I think they're great. No washing up on show, no drying up, doubles as storage for commonly used things.

Does anyone else do drawer type dishwashers apart from P&F?

We have a double drawer dishwasher from John lewis. It doesn't really help, both just end up sitting waiting to be emptied and the plates still get dumped in the sink.
