Purple and green paint for dd9 bedroom- have you got this combination?

Painting dd bedroom and she would like green and purple painted walls. I am rubbish at choosing colours and don't know what shades to go for. She is having scooter transfers over the top of it.

Ha ha -hopefully not that may be a bit dark. Maybe more of a lime green. I wish I was better at this/

I had lime green and lilac for a bit when I was younger.
It looked ok. I wouldn't choose it now but I'm glad my mum let me have the choice and went with it. She was able to accessorise to minimise the impact Smile

These are the colours of the Suffragettes, and feminism in general so go for it. Smile

Unless you are happy with the room looking very dark, personally i would advise using the colours as highlights, rather than main colours IYSWIM - I still have nightmares about a living room makeover my DM did when I was a DC - deep purple walls, lime skirting, doors etc, purple 60s swirl carpet & sofa

I've used deep purple & lime in my own 10yr old DDs room' though more as a highlight along with turquoise, bright pink, silver & silver grey.

All walls are silver grey (Dulux French Grey), the recess wall is deep purple (colours "jazzy") the opposite wall is silver wallpaper with a bright pink floral silhouette type design ( this was quite new & she still liked it & left over from the last decorating session, but we fit it into the new make over

all shelves, wooden & wicker furniture & paintwork are metallic silver (Rustins Aluminium) & the insides of all the silver metallic painted cube type furniture (cheap pine B&Q pigeonhole) are alternating bright -' lime, turquoise, pink, purple

Silver vinyl flooring, lime rug, silver blind with bright pink curtains & green pots in the windowsill - lime dome drop light fitting, (BHS), lime bean bag, silver bedding with lime & purple fleece throws & lime, purple, turquoise & silver cushions - (BHS again)

Hope that makes sense, but in short, I'd be wary of the covering the room with those solid colours, but they go well as highlights in a mostly silver/pale grey room - then accessorise with deep purple & lime too, you can find lots if great stuff in these sort if brights at the moment

& as a bonus, have a grey base, makes the next make over cheap & easy too - just change the highlights & accessories Wink

Rockinhippy- I wish you were a close friend of mine your ideas are fab and you could inspire me with my whole house.

Is the vinyl floor you mentioned the kind that you see on rolls in carpet shops? Do you need something under it?

Thank you :)

Yes, cheap & cheerful stuff you see everywhere, in acfewcdesigns & colours, we went for the metalic silver with a Lego/disc type detail on it & fantastic for kids bedrooms, especially arty messy ones like mine :)

we did need to board our floor underneath, but we live in an old house & her floor was very uneven, even a bit of ancient hearth in the corner, but if your floor is even, then no, it should be fine on its own.

I will try & upload a few photos, which should explain it better & show you the shades that we think work well together, it might be more help, though we aren't quite finished yet, so excuse that

I've realised with DDs room, she is growing up so quickly & her room needs to change so often as a result that we need a base colour so that we can change the look of the room, with little effort, if that makes sense. the grey/metallic silver should hopefully work well for next time round too, just change the accent walls & accessories.

Thanks for putting the picture up it looks great. DD is away with school at the moment but I will show her when she gets back Smile

Jazzy paint looks exactly the colour dd would like (she has asked for boys purple not girls purple!!)

Did you fit the vinyl or did someone do it for you. I was thinking laminate for the floor put I may go and look at some vinyl now. I know the silver one you mean and I bet it looks great and so easy to wipe up dirt.

Actually looks very much like the purple I have bought from Wickes to see if it meets her approval when she gets back.

No problem, I know its sometimes good to have something to look at to help decide :)

she has asked for boys purple not girls purple

How funny, our DD asked for that too - I had no idea what she meant and shes a fussy mare so I took her down to B&Q & let her choose herself - she nearly went for the same one you've linked to, too but after humming & Haring she decided on the jazzy, though they are very similar :)

We did get someone to fit the vinyl, but only because DDs floor was uneven & needed boarding first & they laid the boarding too, we needed them to to that & fitting the Lino cost very little extra, so it seemed silly for us to do it ourselves, but I think if your floors even it wouldn't be too difficult to do it yourself - & yes it cleans up beautifully, I now use a steam mop on it, but have just hoovered/swept & baby wiped or mopped it too

That sounds nice relaxing - we have something a bit similar in our own living room - bit of a lighter version of sage green, but with leopardskin, white & wood & yes not dark
