Does anyone actually do that thing where you hang your necklaces for display on the wall?

I always see it in magazines. It's very poncetastic, not to mention pretty messy, unless you have a suitably bohemian house. Plus it probably only looks good if your jewellery collections comprises of 'pieces' rather than pieces of crap from Primark.

Anyone manage to pull it off? Or do your 'pieces' lie in a tangled mess in a box somewhere like mine?

I have a really cool wooden display thingy to hang mine on that comes from one of those bunting cupcake shops.

tribpot · 05/05/2013 21:01

Mess in a box. Wouldn't the 'pieces' get dusty unless you wore them all regularly? (Not all at the same time, obviously).

Er, I have a long picture nail in the wall that I hang all my 3 on, it's next to the little basket that holds my make up, and it's tucked in a corner out the way. Does that count?

LilacBreastedRoller · 05/05/2013 21:05

I've got one of these stands It's helped me tidy up no end and my necklaces get either worn or rehomed because I don't forget about them.

RustyBear · 05/05/2013 21:05

Most of mine is in a box, but I have a few bits on display on a 'hand' - never thought of hanging them on the wall!

Marthanoooo · 05/05/2013 21:08

That would be far too clutters for me... But that might also explain why I never wear any necklaces.

Anja1Cam · 05/05/2013 21:11

Errm after years of a massive tangle in a drawer (I have lots of chunky, colourful, home made etc.) I got two of these (not from Amazon I hasten to add), and they now hold the majority, but no attempt is being made at display, it's more of a practical function. DD2 loves to pick one out for me in the morning...

I have no surface space to stick anything on. Hanging my necklaces on a wall would make DH too twitchy. He likes things to be put away, though with 2 young children & a teeny tiny house he feels twitchy quite a lot!

DD had some small chrome coat hooks on her wall - about six of them - next to the dressing table, that she hung her necklaces on until recently.

As the rest of her room was such a shit heap, and little bit more chaos didn't hurt!! Grin

Ruprekt · 05/05/2013 21:27

Ds made me and painted a jewellry tree which I hang things on. He made it out of clay. SmileSmile

OhHullitsOnlyMeYoni · 05/05/2013 21:28

I had an enamel door hook on the wall and it saved the unwravelling process I have in boxes/drawers. However I clearly have too much crappy primark shizzle weighty jewels as it actually broke off the wall (tip, don't use no more nails instead of a drill). Keep meaning to do it again as I did see them which meant I wore them more.

whoopwhoopbib · 08/05/2013 07:50

I have an over the door multiple coat hanger thing which must have about 8 hooks on it that my necklaces hang on over the airing cupboard door. It looks messy but it stops them from getting broken and is in the spare room so no one sees it.

Startail · 08/05/2013 08:03

Mine live on a tree and some brass hooks little ones designed for keys on the side of a little draw unit not the wall.
they make cool cake stands too

Yoghurty · 08/05/2013 08:22

I also have the 'nail in the wall' feature for my very long necklaces. My DP hates it, he says it looks tacky.
I have nowhere else to hang them thou and untangling them is a pain!

All other jewellery is in boxes or tins

BranchingOut · 08/05/2013 08:25

I have recently started hanging them in the wardrobe, around the hanger of the dress or top that they go with.

BranchingOut · 08/05/2013 08:26

Before they were either in a box in my wardrobe or my jewellery box.

MortifiedAdams · 08/05/2013 08:31

A friend hangs hers on the end of her curtain pole (low windows/ceilins), which looks really good. I never wear necklaces so dont have that problem.

therumoursaretrue · 08/05/2013 08:43

I have an antique jewellery cabinet with room to hang mine in. Probably one of the best things I've ever bought as mine used to lie tangled in a box and never got worn.
