Advice needed on how to get rid of smells on leather settee

Helloooooo, please can anybody recommend something to remove smells from a leather settee? The smell is mainly on 1 seat (it's a 3 seater settee), where my dh sits, and is just rank.

Its embarrassing when friends or family visit, as they seem to perch on the edge of the settee, so must be able to smell it too

is it a sweat thing, or a rotting leather (not properly cured) thing; or an incontinence/flatulence thing?

how do you usually clean it?

Sorry should have added more info at the beginning.

Mainly sweat and some flatulence, though dh does try to remember to stand up if ready to break wind He's one of those who is continuously warm, a 'wears shorts in the winter' kind of guy. He has a bath every day.

The settee is Italian leather 3 years old. I normally use Lord Sheraton spray to condition/clean it, or a very diluted mix of multipurpose cleaner.

I always use leather sprays but if that doesn't cover the odour you could try dettol or any detergent that removes bacteria. I'm sure if you only put some and then wipe it out quickly it won't damage it. :)

try a washable throw, you can also use babywipes to clean leather (they soap off the dirt and add a little oil to soften it).

you could also use saddle soap, or toilet soap in the same way, but upholstery leather is much thinner and more fragile, so test for colour change. I really don't like the sound of GP cleaner.

I clean my leather sofas every week with a mixture of hot water and dettol. Don't know if it's bad for the leather, but it leaves them nice and clean and fresh.

What is it with men sitting in one particular space only?! Drives me mad. My sofa's look brand new apart from one cushion with a permanent man shaped hole!

Egg, yy to being driven mad by man-shape in one place ! And man-smell......grrr !!

Emily, I tried the Dettol antibacterial spray earlier (and wiped it off straightaway) and it seems to have worked ok, and I am going to also try pigletjohn's baby wipe idea too, to keep the leather softened :)
