and is it worth buying one instead of getting carpets/sofa's professionally cleaned?

I have one. The main washer is absolute shite. The attachment is fab. On balance, I wouldn't buy it again.

Which Vax are you looking at? Is it one of the canister type machines? Where it's a vacuum which can be converted into a washer? Or are you looking at one of the dedicated upright carpet washers.

If its the first one, I don't have first hand experience with these, but have read generally bad reviews on them. If its the latter, they are really good, I have the Vax rapid ultra 2 model and its amazing, I also had a Vax (think it was called vitality) before the rapid and that was good too. If you buy a machine, you then have it always for any future cleaning/accidental spills.

I would have had to replace my cream lounge carpet/or call out the professionals at least 10 times (no exaggeration) without the carpet washers I have had, so the machine has more than paid for itself.

Hi,
Thank for the replies, we have a dyson which I am happy with so was going to plump for just the washer type ones.
Have you used on sofas as well?

I had a canister washer dryer and actually really liked it, strangely satisfying emptying the dirty water down the loo! But took a good while to dry so probably only used once a month. I think it was around 100 quid on ebay?

I have a vax it was about £300 from Argos it's good but I wouldn't buy it again. As soon as anyone knows you've got one they all want to borrow it so I have used it maybe 4 times and its trashed

We've had two, the first got ruined because everyone wanted to borrow it, but didn't use it/clean it properly. We replaced it and that one was rubbish.

I wouldn't buy another, I just use vanish and scrub now, just as effective, but then we don't have big rooms.

I love mine it's the 3 in 1 but I only use it as a washer as we have a Dyson. did the carpet yesterday and I'm always amazed at how much crap comes out even though we Hoover regularly Shock. it's my second the first one was a hand me down from my mum which the clean water didn't work on I used to chuck warm water and shampoo on the floor and just suck it up Hmm

I have a Vax v daul one - better than 1/2 price via amazon last year.

It replaced a rapide one which wasn't too good, but my new one brings up my cream carpets very well.

Like others have said, don't loan it because other people won't handle with the same care.

I recently got some cleaning fluid by crown (suitable for all machines via amazon) and it gave better results than the vax fluid and cost much less. However i don't often use the shampoo, just water which brings up the dirt but the carpet seems to last longer between washes.
