How often do you dust?

So, had an interesting 'discussion' with DH this morning, where he was expressing that he doesn't think the dusting gets done often enough (he didn't actually say it was down to me, but this is clearly implied Angry). So, I wondered how often people dust?

I tend to dust & polish when we have people coming over Blush so probably once every 1/2 weeks. For background, I have 1 DS at home full-time (23m) & one DS at pre-school each morning, 9-12. I work 1 very full day (out 7-7) & we go to groups/on playdates for roughly 2 hours each day. He is out of the house 8-7.30 every day.

Only when I've got incoming relatives who might notice. (ie MIL). Don't bother for own mother. She doesn't believe in dusting either. And our friends couldn't care less.

Jenduck - Hmm if he wants it doing more often there is a solution Grin

I now dust once a week since discovering that DD is allergic to dust mites. Prior to this I would dust about once every 3 weeks unless I had "special" visitors coming

Once a week. Religiously. Sometimes more if I can see dust and we are having guests, proper guests, not family Grin

Thanks, I don't feel too slatternly now Grin

And dothraki I did express those sentiments to him, in no uncertain terms Wink

Dust is best left undisturbed IMO.

I have thought long and hard about the right word for this. It's a toss up between infrequently and occasionally.

Not often enough.

DH has an annoying habit of absentmindedly sweeping his hand over dusty surfaces and looking at the grimness with a WTF face while talking to visitors, usually clean freak MIL or SIL.
He will then annouce 'we' need to dust but what he means is 'notso' do the dusting.

What is this "dusting" of which you speak?

Weekly. I have a dog and a DS with asthma.

Every other day. Do I get a gold star now?

Almost never. I will wipe flat surfaces with a cloth though. Are you supposed to dust books? I don't but I feel like maybe I should

About once a week I suppose. But the telly unit is covered in toast crumbs all the time and the sides with biscuits so I wipe them down a couple of times a day with my sleeve

Once a week too

Labootin · 20/03/2013 10:36

Six days a week
BUT there's a huge disclaimer

I live in a sandy country and I have a housekeeper (she doesn't dust on her day off)

In your position OP I think your regime is fine

Every day but only because it's really noticeable when it settles on the glass coffee table and tv unit. I think I'll switch to wood.

At the word visitors, especially my pesty DSIS who sneezes regardless. I will never clean to DSIS standard. My parents notice too. I'm certain DParents and my DSIS compare notes on how untidy and dusty I leave things. Not that DDad has ever dusted in his life. He's good at collecting clutter and leaving stuff about.

Sadly my DMIL is no longer with us she believed there were far more interesting things to do than clean.

Dusting same as you, every 1-2 weeks.

Children's shelves less often as they're covered in crap ornaments.

Polish, what's that? Actually, I got the polish out to do a plant stand recently, must be about 3 years since I've done any polishing. Blush

After the third year, the dust doesn't get any worse. (on why he doesn't clean his apt.) Grin

Too bloody often. Just getting towards the end of work in the house but until it's done it's just a case of keeping it under control. Normally twice a week and before visitors. if necessary.
