dishwasher died ...recomendations for new one please !

This one was an Ariston and to be honest has been a bit crap. Can anyone reccomend me a good mid range dishwasher please.

Not recommending ours as it is also a bit rubbish...

But our friends have got one with three levels instead of two, with a flat tray at the top for cutlery, instead of a cutlery basket - means you can fit much more stuff in the bottom. I would def get one like that if I was getting a new one. (Not sure what make it is though - maybe Bosch??)

Currently we've got an integrated miele which is absolutely brilliant and worth every penny but it was quite expensive.
In my old house I had a basic bosch and it was really good, not very expensive but not integrated so wasn't suitable for this house.
When we moved here there was a SMEG one already fitted but I really wasn't very good and swore me of ever buying them again when it caught on fire!!! My dad had the same one which also caught on fire within weeks of ours which was worrying.

Bosch - we've had ours for 15 years now and it is amazingly good!

Don't get a de Lounghi, they're rubbish.

We had a cheapy Beko that lated 10 years, and now needs replacing.

Bosch, or Miele if you can afford it.

A simple machine from a good maker wil be more dependable than a fancy one from a poor maker. I'm not keen on integrated appliances, I like to be able to roll out the old one and roll in a new one.

Do you have a budget in mind?

I've got a bosch that's about 3 years old as the previous fitted aeg one broke down.

Although it's ok I'm not as pleased with it as I thought I would be given the plaudits and praise bosch stuff usually gets (and I have other good bosch stuff I like).

it's reasonably quiet but any plastic stuff gets funny white patches on a lot more than they did (and welded on much more firmly!) when in the old dishwasher. Glasses have become a bit more scratched which they weren't in the old dishwasher.

and the thing that really puts me off is that if any water is trapped on the top of glasses or where there is an indent it's really grubby looking water - again, if it is being rinsed then I would expect that water to be clean. maybe a couple of bits in if they were heavy and didn't get swooshed away but the grubby water always makes me feel a bit hmm about it. And then that water is apparently then saved to do the first rinse of the next wash - which wouldn't be so bad if it really was clean rinsing water but if it's not then it's a bit manky. also means you have to remember to drain it if you don't use it for a couple of days (especially if you go on holiday for a week!) - voice of bitter experience - it goes very smelly and horrible and you have to run the washer through several times to get it into any semblance of smelling clean enough to wash dishes in.

if I had the money I'd get a miele!

eww - our Bosch doesn't do that.. is it an eco "feature"? - mmmmm might be something to watch out for on newer ones...

If you can afford it, Miele. My current Miele is 6 years old & no problems. The one I had prior to that was still going after 21 years & 7 moves & had only needed a new door seal.

Go for the bottom of the range - you don't need any of the fancy stuff the more expensive ones do!

My Bosch dishwasher is ace. 14 years old and still going strong (touch wood) Doesn't do any of that weird stuff zipzap mentions thankfully!

I'd go for a basic model from an expensive brand over a fancy model from a cheaper brand iyswim?

Man came to repair our tumble dryer and said Bosch appliances are great as they are reliable and easy to repair too.

We've got a Bosch Logixx. It's fab, and it has a cutlery drawer at the top, rather than a basket, so you have more room for large pans etc. it washes and dries everything beautifully, and is super quiet too.

We have a John Lewis one - whichever one was recommended by Which as one of their best buys. It's OK though it's a pain that the normal wash takes 2.5 hours.

Thanks for the advice everyone... Im going to research into the bosch.. I'd love a miele just need to persuade myself and dp that it's a worthwhile investment.
I've been washing up by hand for a family of 5 for 3 days now and I've had enough !

Miele really is worthwhile if you can afford the initial outlay. Should last 20 years if anything like their washing machines.

I'm disappointed with our Bosch. It doesn't clean as well as our old washer which was a Hoover. I really thought it would be fantastic....and it isn't. If we wash a pan which has had mashed potato in, even on the long wash it leaves little bits of potato dried onto everything so that glasses and plates all feel bumpy and I know they aren't clean. I love that the racks fold down for putting pans in but don't like that they don't get clean. It's quiet though.

bosch here - 9 years old. Look for one with a fast cycle!

Don't get Hotpoint - rubbish! Ours has given up the ghost after continually breaking down pretty much since we bought it. We've ordered a Bosch, which is getting delivered tomorrow!! Can't wait as fed up with hand washing

Our John Lewis one has taken a battering and is still going. I also know someone with the 3 drawer ?Bosch one and it's on my list. Takes a 14 place setting (most take 10) and has funky lights.

We've got a Miele. It did cost a fair bit, but it washes very well and has been completely reliable mechanically. Its got one of those top cutlery drawers which do give you more room, but they are a bit of a faff. The bottom drawer has plate supports which fold flat so you can put large items in, but the bit you hooked in to keep the supports upright for plates snapped within a couple of years and spare drawers dont seem to be available. This means that sometimes the plate supports will collapse without warning which is less than ideal.

I was just about to ask... been looking at the miele top cuttlery drawer and wondering if you have to organise all the cuttlery in an OCD manner , I kind of like chucking them in the basket !
