After reading the 'things you can't live without' thread I have decided that I NEED a better duet - currently have a cheap and scratch £8 supermarket one - any recommendations??

Need a kingsize, preferably online and preferably not bank breaking! :-)

plenty of suggestions but you need to set us a budget, also synthetic or feather? (or silk?)

I would recommend a feather.

I have paid £45 for a 13.5tg from asda and £35 for a 13.5tg. from argos.

The asda one I bought online.

We had an expensive 200 x 200 duvet, I changed for a kingsize IKEA duvet and it's great! The cheapie one is better than the V. pricey one.

We have a JL down filled one, they range in price quite a bit and may not be within your "not bank breaking" budget as I don't know what you have in the bank. They normally have a "special buy" one in the sales. It is lovely link

We got one from JL that is two-in-one, a thinner one for summer, a thicker one, then they pop together.

Really useful for occasional guest use as well. Had it about a year and it's good. Think it was a JL special offer this time last year?

We've just got an all seasons one from Dunhelm mill, a 10.5 & 4.5 tog which pop together to make a winter duvet. It's very nice compared to the supermarket crappy one we did have and alot warmer considering the tog difference is only 1.5 between the old one and new one. It was on sale for £30, bargain!

Someone on another thread recommended DAPW. I have bought a throw which I am really delighted with, service was excellent and they have free delivery.

Thanks everyone - erm budget wise nite really sure, assumed down ones were the way to go after people raving about them on the other thread and assumed they'd be quite expensive so prepared to pay more if they last?? :-)

I've got a Hungarian Goosedown. It was a present, the best ever. it's like sleeping under a cloud.. I searched endlessly, really wanted White Company but went to DAPW (as recommended). It was expensive but cost per use is good value. It makes me smile every night..

Ive got a DAPW silk one as recommended by someone on here- and I love it.

I've had expensive down ones, but I like the smooth tidiness of the silk, not to mention lovely to sleep under.

Nowhere near as expensive as I thought it would be.

That was probably me, cate . I am evangelical about DAPW silk duvets, cool in summer and warm in winter. Also fab if you are of an certain age as helps with thermoregulation, I find. Not for those who like v deep fluffy duvets though.

I have \link{http://www.uk-bedding.co.uk/product_171-1-21_Silentnight-Just-Like-Down-Egyptian-Cotton-Super-King-Size-10.5-tog-Duvet.htm\Silentnight Egyptian cotton 10.5 tog}, which is very light but plenty warm enough in a warm room (Argos have it in stock but it's £50 there)

They do \link{http://www.uk-bedding.co.uk/product_107-1-21_Silentnight-Winter-13.5-Tog-Duvet-Pure-Egyptian-Cotton.htm\13.5 tog as well} - good for a cooler room, and it's in stock & only £30

It's described as "just like down" - haven't ever tried down, so can't vouch for that, but it is light & fluffy & lovely Smile

Ooh - I'm all confused - thought i'd be looking at £100 ish but seems like luxury doesn't have to be big spend!! I'm on my phone so struggling to have a proper look - will do later.

Have just ordered a new bed (kingsize for the first time ever - very excited!!) and bought new bedding from tk maxx as recommended on here so thought a new quilt would just finish it off nicely :-)

DAPW's website is definitely worth checking. I got my down duvet from there and it was much cheaper than anything else I saw.

If you're getting a king size bed, get a super king quilt if poss! Although that may mean new bedding too. Grin

May I recommend a Baavet (Baa - vey)? Wool duvet.

I used to use cheap duvets and treated us to a 90% Hungarian goose down 10tog duvet from John Lewis in October. I'm too embarrassed to say how much we paid for it because it stayed on the bed precisely 4 months...(so about £50 a month then! Grin)

It was totally unbreathable and we'd wake up ebery morning dripping in sweat. I googled wool duvets, steered clear from the Fogarty ones as they have polypropylene liners which trap heat and came across Baavet, wool duvets from Wales, made ethically and with home-grown wool.

Bought a king size slightly overweight Light duvet from the Bargain Box corner. Together with a voucher code (just searched for Baavet vouchers) I only paid £68. It has revolutionised my sleeping life.

They lie very flat, not fluffy. I prefer that, others won't. In a normally-heated house you wouldn't need more than the Light or Medium weight. Can't recommend them highly enough, I'm a Baavet evangelist! (No connection to the company btw in case people are wondering!)

Got a fab lightweight one that snaps together for summer/winter from John Lewis. Love it - it's so soft and light but toasty/cool as you need or so my husband says as I'm always so hot at night I don't bother sleeping under it most of the timeGrin

Snuggledown of Norway. It's my only extravagance, I get so cold at night I sleep under twin duvets. Very expensive but you can get bargains in tk max or amazon. Hugely big, fluffy and warm.

We have a microfibre one from DAPW and I love it. I can't have down as I'm allergic to dust mites but the microfibre is just a fluffy and not sweat inducing like polyester fill cheapie duvets.
