Does your house have seasonal hangover? Big clean up back to normal temp thread

I've had my DM to stay for 8 nights Shock

2 days of recovering from that then my DH has been off for two weeks Hmm

Ive been happy to take a back seat and let DH do the domestic side, I've been spoilt really with all the cooking and getting kids dressed etc....Im a SAHP so a break is nice no?

Well the truth is now he is going back to work I'm just taking in wtchuff has been going on, the state the house is in.

There is chilli from here to everywhere, caked on t towels
The laundry is , i can't even say....it will take me two weeks i reckon with limited drying space.
The lounge i could see it was getting bad and need hovering but it took me ages to get it al up - it will need spot cleaning by hand and then shampooing
the bathrooms well I've kept the bleach going but they needs a good scrub
Ive cleared fridge - disgusting, there was sprouts from xmas day in there all mushed up - gross

Really, as greta as my DH has been and done all cooking, if I don't stick to my daily flyesque routine it all goes to pot truly it does.

So I needs a big clean up...

House with a hangover is such a good way putting it. Mine looks like a bomb has hit it - kids stuff/presents everywhere, needs a good hoover/mop, laundry mounting up. Everything needs cleaning basically. My excuse is a busy christmas, I was ill before xmas, and dh is ill with flu now :(

My NY resolution is to clean it all up, and throw loads out -go all minimalist. But I'm on MN instead! And I 've got to walk the dog before I do anything. And it's nearly 2pm already.

Oh dear.

Mine is a big mess too, I feel your pain. There's just loads of stuff everywhere Hmm we just got back from MILs on the 30th, we were there for over 2 weeks so got loads of laundry to do, the suitcases are just randomly in the hall, open with stuff spewing out, the kitchen is empty so we really need to go food shopping, and because there's nothing here we had a takeaway last night and there are takeaway boxes and bags and all sorts all over the coffee table. It's awful but won't take long til we're back in a routine.

You can do it, OP! I'm going to have a Brew and then get cracking

Mine has gone beyond chaos! Presume it's filthy under all of the crap too, but I can't see that far Xmas Wink.

We work more hours over the christmas fortnight than the rest of the year, so on top of the food, presents, general christmas chaos, we have no time!

I did intend to get all sorted with decluttering before christmas, but erm, didn't.

I'm starting today with rounding up and sorting out the rubbish and recycling.

Will identify which washing is most urgent and get that started.

Clear out fridge, round up and confiscate all choc and crisps (new year diet), and write a healthy shopping list.

Have just retrieved DD from grandma's so have 4 big supermarket bags for life of her stuff to sort, and my dogs are back tomorrow so need to sort out some floor space for them!!

Honestly, if anyone walked in just now I might die of shame.

Off work tomorrow so will make big efforts then.

Ok - The dog is walked. I'm now going to take a deep breath, and do this:

Flylady crisis clean

Then I might have a go at this:

decluttering christmas

Happy cleaning all Grin

Well the tree is down, the cards have gone for recycling, the lounge and dining room have been dusted and vacuumed, the kitchen floor has been cleaned, ditto the oven.

The washing has been done and I am ploughing through a pile of ironing. DH and I have worked through the chores together and our house looks more like a home now :)

2kidsintow · 01/01/2013 15:04

We've made a good start at ours today.
Tree is down, the decs have actually been sorted through and I've thrown old/broken lights and decs etc. All back in the loft.
DH did manage to push the hoover around, but only after a friend of ours turned up and he was shames into doing it!
DD1 has spent a day and a half sorting out her stuff and tidying up.

2 loads of laundry done and on the line, third lot in now. (Took a laundry holiday this week)
Dishwasher done and DH did a load of hand washing. (Then left the kitchen in a bombsite after making a lunch of leftovers)

Tablecloth and runner off the table and in the wash.
Children have had presents put in the toy cupboard in the dining room and what won't fit is banished to their rooms.

The playmobil advent calendar was taken apart and repacked into the right windows by DD.

All my hobbycraft purchases (bargains for next year) are packed away with the decs so they won't be forgotten about.

I think tomorrow will bring
*Stripping the beds
*Cleaning down the kitchen (deep clean into nooks and crannies)
*Washing the carpets in the kids rooms now their own trees are down and away.
*Doing a skip run with anything the binmen won't take.

Ooh I made a start!

Have stashed away the sweets, put some washing on... then gave up.

I seem a bit overwhelmed, but think I might take leaf out of Chottie's book, and get the tree down and cards out.

Will have to hunt the house high and low for the decorations, between DD and the cat they are scattered far and wide.

Feelingood · 01/01/2013 20:01

Right I've made a start.

I've tidied through house and relocated items to their correct room for now, some room by room tweaking to be done. Toys are upstairs.

I've took decorations down and put them away.

Hooevered throughout

I've just made sausage casserole (no NY dinner for us) and wiped down benches, hob top and splashback.

There is a pile of dishes, dishwasher full of clean, leave that for ds in AM.

Laundry is piled upwall on top of darks/lights basket AND sorted piles in kitchen.

There has been two tips runs.

It's better, there is decluttering to do in each room.
Everywhere needs a good dust, polish and scrub - I'm doing this tomorrow.

stop thinking about cupboard stop thinking about cupboard stop thinking about cupboard.

running go minimalist, I wish - thinks I might set a target date, maybe for spring, thanks for links, I have my timer the old fat fairy has helped me in the past think I'll do that tomorrow.
onthe thanks, pain shared n all that, hope you got on well with cracking on.
oreo I would die of shame too, I'm so pleased we've no one calling round, maybe that's why I've relaxed this much Grin
chottie oh my you mentioned oven, my oven....oh dears, argh but I see you've made a good start,, little bit n all that.
2kids youve done a lot hats off to you.

jajas. Well done for having guests last night. I havnt been in a position to have guests for number of weeks IMO.

I think I know I set slightly too high a standards some times but whenever I goe to other peoples it's always immaculate like its never been dirty etc I have ishooossss.

On another note I have my ds (6) here who will help or keep in his room out of way but my little dd (11mnths) is the boss and chief, I'll see how I get on if she 'lets' me get on.

But my beloved DH will be at work. Smile I've had enough of him after two weeks. He's done his own sandwiches and ironed his own shirts, (wow for the week)

It's funny if the kids didn't need constantly feeding then they'd be much easier I don't mind the rest of it tbh. Grin

I did a bit more.

Sorted out the rubbish. Took all of the toys out of the boxes and sorted the recycling - they are coming tomorrow thank goodness because my pile is huge! It looks more like a warehouse bin depot, not a family of 3's Confused.

Took some decorations down, will do the tree tomorrow. To be honest I pretty much gave up, I'm tired, only had 3 hours sleep last night, so will make a good effort tomorrow.

Have DP and DD at my mercy to help so hopefully I will be able to report good progress!

Oreocrumbs · 02/01/2013 10:38

I'm doing well today - have been out in the rain and taken the lights down, tree down and out, piled all of the dec boxes up to go in the loft including the stuff from last year that only made it as far as the spare room Blush.

Just waiting for DP to help put them up in the loft.

Have done some washing, about to do some more, and sorted the heap of clean washing that was taking up the kitchen sofa into the relevant piles to be put away.

Off to empty and refill the dishwasher and put all of the christmas presents away in the right rooms!

Got distracted by ndn with a play date so no more progress. Will put the stuff in the loft tonight.

I know what you mean about washing. There are only 3 of us - why we get through so much is beyond me!

I think it will take a few more days before I actually get on top of this place!

Bloody hell! I forgot all about thread as it's been so low done on threads I'm on list!

Well, it fits and starts here. oreo can't believe you've hosted a playdate. I thanked my lucky stars dc's asked if he could stay, instant guilt relief from not taking him swimming or to park. for affirmation purposes I have:

Been to tip
Took clothes back
Shopped real one and online
Kitchen, Xmas crockery n posh glasses etc put away, table cleared of crap, got on top of dishes Blush tidied out food cupboards, fridge and wiped round pan cupboard. DH is not allowed in the kitchen again, it's not worth it, so much stuff displaced etc.
Living room clear but need to declutter wall unit Hmm
Laundry oh for the life of me it mountainous I've done three loads, I really need to crack on, I'm down to my last towels and the beds need stripping.......[steps tragedy emoticon]

Well after my lazy day yesterday, I have done some this am. I need to finish off downstairs really as its ds birthday tomorrow. We have the pleasure of balloons and streamers!

The house is superficially back to normal but needs a deeper clean once it's emptied of humans messy things.

Why is it,that for weeks after Christmas, the floors twinkle at me? Mainly the main areas that are hoovered daily (with a good vacuum). I hate glitter [grrrrrrr]
