Rangemaster build quality - should I get a different brand of range oven

Hi all

I've been reading the threads on here regarding rangecookers, as we are looking to purchase one in the next fortnight.

We were all set on a Rangemaster Excel or Professional Deluxe 110, but when we saw them recently a local showroom were disappointed with the tinny feel to them and have had a major wobble.

It's a major investment and don't know what to do.... We seen terrible reviews for Falcon and Britannia. We have to get a 110 as that's the gap we have in our cupboards.

We'd love to hear from anyone who's had a Rangemaster Excel, Falcon or Britannia dual fuel oven.

We can only stretch to the Britannia if we go to economy cookers in kings Lynn so if anyone has bought from here we'd love to hear your experience. The idea of handing over a large sum of money to a company you have never used before fills me with dread!

Particularly interested in the grills and evenness of cooking as this seems to be a theme of many of the negative reviews.

Thanks everyone.
Sallypoo

I've only heard good reviews about Falcons, that's what I will probably go for. A friend (food technologist and fantastic cook) has had two in two different houses. They're much more solid than Rangemasters.

I'd really love an Esse with induction hob, but it's the same price as a second hand car Grin

I have the Rangemaster Professional Plus 110. It was bought from cookers and ovens .co.uk but delivered by Rangemaster/Aga who also make Falcon . They levelled the cooker when they delivered it as well as setting it all up and checking that the everything was working correctly. The two guys who came were excellent. I am very happy with my rangemaster and this is my second. Previous one sold with house.

Thanks Ladies,

Been into town this afternoon and had another look at the Rangemaster Excel... Still worried. Found flaking enamel in one of the ovens and the two top drawers didn't line up because the seal on the righthand one was so poor the door pocked out another few mil.

Really tempted to go for the Falcon but worried as it doesn't have a timer or an autocook thingy....

Even looked at buying the Britannia, but the ovens are so much smaller than the Rangemaster or Falcon in a 110 width....

Amazonian, do you know when your friend bought her Falcon? I've heard that since they were bought out by Aga the quality has dropped.... Does she have one with a seperate grill (another thing which seems to be a bit dodgy on the Falcon & the Rangemasters).

Thanks
S

If you can stretch your budget to a lacanche they are amazing (we have had 3 in various houses)...fabulous quality and a dream to cook with.

Ooh yes Lacanche are beautiful...

Friend's Falcon must be around 7.5 years old. I'm not sure when they were bought out? Yes it has a separate grill which works fine. She cooks and bakes A LOT.

Another friend has a Rangemaster Elise 110 - around 4 years old - and is very happy with it.

Would love a Lacanche, but no, can't stretch to that. Had a top of £2k but have pushed to the Falcon price already....

Also have the small problem that new kitchen has been built to accommodate a 110 Rangemaster, so difficult if gaps either side have to be bigger as they do on a Aga or I believe a Lacanche.

I do wonder if DH and I are fretting unnecessarily regarding the Rangemaster.....

I saw an Italian one in John Lewis which looked quite good, something like berlusconi! Will have a look...

Bertazzoni

I don't think they do 110cm though.

What about a 90 or 100 then use filler panels and worktop to fill the gaps - giving extra room for eg bottles of olive oil etc?

A 90 will also be cheaper than a 110

Hi everyone,

thanks so much. Well we've made a decision. We're going for the Falcon 1092. The fillers are a bit of a problem as the kitchen is already being built so would be quite expensive for us to change to a 90 or 100 as we're having a false chimney breast etc.

One last question - would you recommend gloss or matt pan supports?

Personally I have had a dreadful experience Falcon .. the oven has been one of the worst ovens I have ever owned. In fact last year the hinges to the door have meant that the oven door fell off and it was fixed but less then a year later and the hinges have gone again .. I really cannot state how very disappointed I have been with this company, so no matter how pretty they are .. they are not, in my experience good quality, and what more they did not turn up to fix it when they said they would !

I will never again use a Falcon when this one is done with I will cheer loudly ...

I looked at Rangemasters in a shop and thought the same, that they had plasticky cheap looking knobs. Except for the Nexus, which is what I bought

Friend and I both bought new range cookers about the same time (she a few months before). She went for a Rangemaster and as I don't like to copy I went for a Stoves. She said the build quality on the Stoves was much better (oven doors) and she has had a few problems with hers (all repaired under warranty) but now a handle is loose and falling off? Mine still looks as new although the fan oven is a bit uneven cooking, even so I am pleased with our choice.

Rangemaster cookers are now rather shoddy and not fit for purpose. The doors have rusted on ours. The control knobs are plastic and are peeling. The fitter that came to replace our doors showed us how the door surface paint has not been completed properly. The plinth at the base has also rusted. Very disappointed.
