How do I ger rid of a "medicinal smell"..

I have a lovely old wall cabinet which was my grannys, she used it as a medicine cabinet. It has a distinctive medicinal smell inside that I just can't get rid off. Sort of TCP-ish I suppose but not TCP iykwim. I have painted the cabinet with about three coats of paint, scrubbed it and put bicarbonate of soda inside it, but the smell is still there.

You can't smell it when the doors are shut. However, I have jars with buttons, candles etc in it, and anything which has been in the cabinet takes on the smell.

Any ideas of anything else I can try are greatly appreciated!

Spooky !!!

Seriously though I would probably put something nice but strongly scented in there such as essential oil or a scented candle (not lit obviously) to mask the smell.
