DH angry boiled dry the steamer with potatoes in. The bottom is caked in burnt on charcoal. A scrub hasn't shifted much of it..... Any tips please. Would be sad if it can't be saved as I've got many tiers for it sad

What sort of steamer is it?

Ouch! It should be salvageable. You need some old fashioned Brillo pads and lots of elbow grease. Leave to soak in between scrubbing bouts (It may take a few goes at it!).

Covering it with bicarbinate of soda and then pouring vinegar on top will cause a fizzing reaction which might help to shift some of it, but really, elbow grease is your best hope!

Try either putting in warm water with some bio washing powder and leaving all night or putting on to hob to boil with water and washing up liquid (check it doesn't boil dry again!)

Either way then try rubbing with a gentle scourer suitable for non-stick pans!

Thought a good scrub would be the answer sad
It's not nonstick so at least the scrub won't knacker the base, it's a copper bottomed pan and it was a wedding present, double sad

Will try the washin powder, thanks smile

Pour in a bottle of the cheapest lemonade you can find ( value supermarket stuff) . Leave it to soak overnight then scrub it .

The stuff lifts beet root stains so burnt food should shift . ( it's the acid in it btw wink )
