Is having a continually wet bath mat just a boring fact of life - does yours dry out between uses?

We have towelling bath mats, and after two people standing on it in the morning, then two children standing on it in the evening, it never really dries out (especially now it's autumn). I hang it over the side of the bath. We have enough problems drying towels (one on radiator, one over the banisters etc..)
Does anyone have a good bath mat that works as an absorbent surface to make it safe to get out of bath, but that doesn't lie around in a wet heap?

Make them dry their feet roughly before getting out. Or get a duck board?

Only way we've found is radiator... There is no other answer!

We just use old towels but then they go in the wash after a day or so. Doesn't look as nice but I didn't want a wet mat to keep drying.

Mine never drys out in between us all showering its just goes flat and wet which then gets your socks wet when you pop into bathroom to have a wee or clean teeth etc so I just change mine every couple of days hate doing it but its the only way to stop getting soaking wet socks.

Mine dries better on a towel rail where the air can circulate rather over the side of the bath. The rubber backed ones seem to take longer to dry.

I have the same problem. Eventually my bath mats all go manky and fall apart. I've given up on them now.

We have bath mats on the floor in the bathroom, but we actually use towelling foot mat things for when anyone steps out of the shower/bath. You dry yourself on there and then step onto the fluffy bath mats with pretty much dry feet. The towelling thing gets hung on side of bath and pretty much dries in between getting wet again. I have 2 of them, so after a few days, one goes in the wash and the other one comes into use.

Cannot stand getting wet feet when going into the bathroom!

Hopeforthebest - do you mean you use something like a mini towel to dry feet before getting out? That's what shelldockley is saying too. I can do that for me and DH - more tricky for kids because I usually have to lift them out of bath (dripping, then wrap in towel) otherwise they'd stay there for hours.

With a duck board, does one have a towely thing under it? Or dry up puddle with a cloth?

Have you got an airing cupboard in or near the bathroom? That should dry it out if you hang it in there

No but it goes in the washing machine every 48 hours..... and to think some people have carpet in their bathrooms - must be a permanent wet carpet and associated damp smell. Maybe we all need underfloor central heating!

Yes - I lift ds out of bath/shower and onto towelling floor mat thingy, he then has to stand there until I've dried him off slightly (mainly legs and feet!) and then into bathrobe.

I have another one for the dog, too, so when I wash her paws, I lift her onto her own mat thingy while I dry her. That way we don't get wet paw patches on the bath mats either! :)

We dry ourselves while still standing in the bath/shower. All we ever get is one paif of wet footprints.

I just stick mine in the wash with the towels and tumble dry it with them as well

I've only got one DS but DH seems to be like a wet dog when getting out of the shower so is probably equivalent usage. We have this bathmat, m.johnlewis.com/mt/www.johnlewis.com/304323/Product.aspx it dries between usage and is very thick and cosy. It's not cheap but I'm only on my second one as the first one lasted 6years!

We have loads of older/spare towels and each time one of us gets out of the bath I have a folded up towel there to step out onto so it is that that gets wet, not the bath mat.

When I'm bathing the kids I use the folded towel for padding to kneel on so I my knees don't hurt on the tiled floor! and then, when they get out, I pop them onto it whilst I dry their feet & lower legs.

It's then easier to wash/dry the towel with the bath towels than to sort out the bath floor mat.

We used to have this problem until underfloor heating was installed - Now I just like to curl up on the bathroom floor as it's the warmest room in the house :)

for the dcs i dont have a bath mat because they splash so much it would be drenched by the time they get out. i lift them out onto the floor and they drip into the puddle they have already created whilst i dry them then i use the towel i've dried them with to dry the floor.

for me i dry myself thoroughly whilst standing in the bath, then when ready to get out i balance on one foot, dry the other then place it straight out onto bath mat and then dry otherfoot.

I have two bath mats and wash one/use one alternating every couple of days

If I'm using it I always put an old towel on top of the mat. Which does defeat the object of the mat in the first place but I hate wet towels lying about.

No-one else here bothers doing that though so I swoop in and put the mat in the airing cupboard to dry out. The mat spends most of its life drying out in the airing cupboard or in the wash I'm starting to think the mat a waste of time.

I use small towelling bath mats (they are just like a towel except a bit stiffer - no plastic/rubber backing or anything). Have 3 so they can go in the wash every couple of days. I usually dry myself before I step out. DH slops water everywhere. In between uses, it dries over the side of the bath (and normally is fine in the morning).
