White fluffy mould on furniture

What is the white fluffy mould that is growing on some of our furniture? It looks like the stuffing in pillows or very thick white cobwebs.
How do I get rid of it (on old wooden furniture) and is it dangerous?

are you in the UK?

it is most often caused by warm moist conditions, but usually black mildew appears first.

Excessive humidity is most often caused in the UK by wet washing draped around the house or over radiators. Increasing the ventilation will reduce excessive humidity.

Thanks PigletJohn.

Yes, I am in the UK. What is the fluffy stuff and do you know how I can remove it from the furniture, please?

No wet washing indoors just a very damp house.

it will wipe off. You can kill it with dilute bleach or milton, but if your home is damp it will come back. You may find it growing on stored clothes, shoes, blankets etc. If you dry it, it will brush or vacuum off.

Opening the windows will reduce the humidity, especially in bathroom and kitchen.

Are you sure you haven't got a leaking pipe or drain?
