urgent help required please re oven

I turned the oven on to heat up while I popped to Sainsbury's and it's now ready for the beef to go in. I have the in laws coming for lunch. But what i hadn't allowed for was DH cooking himself steak or pork chops the other night and not cleaning the oven afterwards. The bottom of the oven is covered in something (assuming it's fat) and of course it's smoking and giving off a horrible smell. I've opened the window and put the fan on (but that's over the hob so not heaping much Smile).

What else can I do to stop the kitchen smelling so awful? The back of the house is all open plan so the dining table is part of the kitchen and even the lounge is going to get the smells etc.

Any ideas very gratefully received. TIA

thanks cosi. I'll remember that for next time. Fortunately it had nearly disappeared by the time the in laws arrived. Nobody mentioned it anyway Smile. Off to find a good oven cleaning company now.
