Just that really. Ironing synthetic fabric with heat too high now have melted, burned residue all over sole plate of new iron.

No idea how to get it off. Tried scourer and made it worse as now have burned melted scourer on sole plate also!

HELP

Oh, I've done that before! So annoying! I used this...

You can also get similar products in the haberdashery section of John Lewis.

Use 'Faultless hot iron cleaner'. It's AMAZING. It was recommended to me on here actually.

It's a cream which you apply to the someplace then the iron is empty, hot and steam switched off. I use an old facecloth to apply. It fizzles as you rub it in but the burnt stuff comes off. Truly brilliant. Have just lent it to my mum fir hers! I got mine on eBay or amazon, bout a fiver.

And most importantly: your iron needs to be hot for the stuff to melt and come off. Seems self-evident, but it took me several years to grasp this.

Fab. Thank you. And you've given me the excuse to go to John Lewis Home this afternoon! Smile
