What can I put in my hoover to stop the smell?

I have changed the filters and the bag but we have dogs and I hoover everyday I I presume that it is just a dog smell from it. The smell out of it when I am using it is horrible, I am sure I read somewhere that there is something you can pop into the bag to stop that.

Thanks.

you can put some bicarb of soda in that will absorb the odours :)

Thanks for that, how much and do I sprinke it into the bag?

SEBO do these little apple scented things that look like the inside of an old fashioned felt tip pen. You drop it in and smell spicy apples everytime you hoover. I hate 'airfreshener' smells, but this is good.

What is SEBO? I like the sounds of that!

Some heads of fresh lavender work well as I found out by accident when hoovering up some spilt lavender.

SEBO is a make of hoover and accessories, john lewis and most big deparment stores sell them :) we used to have a SEBO hoover, it was very good, lasted ages, we now have a miele, purely because it was on offer when we came to need a new hoover and it is recomended by the allergy foundation (i am allergic to lots of stuff) so needed a good filter on the hoover etc.

If you sprinkle the bicarb of soda on the carpet before hoovering that helps to deodorise the carpets too, and it all ends up in the hoover bag.

Avoid doing this on the rough very 'open' weave nylon sort though, as the bits tend to get stuck!

I sprinkle a few drops of essential oil - grapefruit - on a tissue, shred it a bit and hoover it up, lovely fresh smell. Also tuck oil+tissue behind radiators, smell lasts for ages.

If its a cylinder vacuum take the hose off and wash it in the sink using hot water and washing up liquid. You will be surprised how muck comes out.

I finally found an answer to this one (same problem - lots of pets means the hoover is used often but smells rank even when the bag is new. I tried essential oils on cotton wool that smell gorgeous on the first day but go off. the best thing I've found is a cotton wool ball soaked in Zoflora disinfectant, which has a strong but very fresh floral smell. It seems yo deodorise everything in the hoover bag so however long the bag lasts, the smell stays fresh. Any thing to avoid that hideous smell of pets masked by air-freshener!

A few of those Lenor Unstoppables scent beads work great in the hoover.

Im here trying to find a way to stop my hoover smelling, wasnt expecting to be offended by some comment.. OchellyD.. OCD is not about loving to clean, its obssessions brought on by a real fear of something incredibly bad happening, it can eat a way at most of your day for the simpliest things. you also have extremely upsetting intrusive thoughts. You are in constant fear and a state of worry.. I wish it was a love of cleaning.
