Anybody got a positive review/experience with M&S sofas ?

I thought I had found my perfect sofa with the Fenton range at M&S , lovely styling and comfortable to sit on in the store with 30% off this week. I googled for reviews and found a pile of anti M&S furniture full stop reviews with examples of awful sounding customer service as well which I wouldnt have expected from them

I know reviews arent everything and people are more likely to take to their keyboard if they have a bad experience but even so

Any thoughts ?

We have 2, a bed settee that is 8 years old and a standrard one that is a bit newer. They are both still going strong, no complaints, one had a damaged cushion cover when it arrived but they sent another straight away.

We have 2 Abbey leather sofas and they have lasted really well. They are 8 years old now and look as good as new. My mum has a sofa from M&S too (not sure which one) and she is very pleased with it too.

We had a chaise longue from M&S about two years ago and have been very pleased - no problems with customer service although delivery took weeks and weeks but wasn't actually later than they said it would be.

Cushions still nice and plump, good quality upholstering, solid legs etc.

I had a very good experience with their customer service when I bought my sofas. They were 30% off when I bought them and then a week later they had an extra 10% off. I cheekily phoned them up and asked if they would let me have the extra 10% off and she said of course I will refund you the extra (over £200) with no quibbles. Big thumbs up from me for that!

I have had the abbey chenille footstool for 3 years, still looks like new. Any stains just wipe away and a cat scratching it hasn't marked it. It also seems to have a quality/expensive look and feel to it. Very solid.

It's big though, much bigger than I thought.

I would not advise buying any current models of M&S sofas.

I have had a terrible issue with a Marks & Spencer Abbey sofabed in Boston Leather. The frame has bent/collapsed. It has been well looked after and even the FIRA report that says it has no manufacturing faults says it is in A1 condition. however when i compared the metal thickness to my previous M&S sofabed it is 30% thinner. My experience with M&S customer service has been appaling. contrary to my rights I was fobbed off and told I had to speak to FIRA. Currently I have a M&S sofabed that has failed, the problems mean that the Sofabed is unsafe to use and it is less than 3 years old. I don't know where to go next. £1,700 is a lot of money for such an inferior product.

I have a seperate thread here if you would like to read further.

Never buy M&S sofas - poor quality, fabrics that are not fit for purpose, mark and don't last. Poor quality foam. Dreadful customer service.
Sofa was a day old when this was taken. If you have had a similar experience please reply to me.

I can't comment on their Sofa's but I would avoid buying any large item from M&S. I purchased a table and matching chairs as I saw it had received some good reviews on their website. After about 18 months I noticed that the joints did not look tight and a gap was appearing. I reported this to M&S and an independent Fira technician was sent out to inspect the table., The technician confirmed that I had indeed been sold a table with a manufacturing fault and that the joints had not been tight enough in the first place. I expected the table to be replaced...... However M&S informed me that as I had had the table for over a year I was not entitled to a replacement. I could have a refund of 60% of the cost, because of the usage I had already had out of the table! I handed over my hard earned money to M&S expecting to receive a table in perfect condition. When it was discovered that in actual fact I had been sold a table with a manufacturing fault I think the least I should expect is a replacement.! I have since furnished the rest of my house from John Lewis and Laura Ashley where the customer service has been excellent. I am shocked and appalled by this policy M&S have and think it only fair to warn others! Avoid at all costs!
PS:I tried to post a bad review of the product on the M&S website but it was rejected for not meeting their guidelines so they are clearly only approving the positive reviews.

Hi just recently bought Austen Large sofa and chair. The sofa has a really cheap lining on the underside of the large cushions that I sit on. I am having to adjust this up to 12 times a day as cushions keep riding forward. Have written to Ombudsman today and am amazed at M & S after sales customer service written about on here. Never even went into reviews of them as have had two sofas in the past and always delighted but this blasted thing looks like 10 kids have ridden roughshod over it, having to permanently plump cushion behind me as it keeps dipping in the cushion that is sliding forward underneath my backside. I know your post was a while ago but intereted to hear from you if you still have time. Thanks

Mine have been amazing
One I've had for 10 years and it's still in great condition with no sagging or wearing

My other one is about 6 years and looks brand new

I've had my M & S sofa for 21 years now!! It is still firm to the sit and although I would love to change it, it seems daft when there is nothing wrong with it. I have looked after it over the years and it has been in storage for around 5 in total.

Had bought a sofa 20 years ago and it was fab and the quality was expected - replace with a large four seater, a love chair and a standard chair, had awful problems with the 4 seater, eventually replaced after a lot of messing from M and S (had to quote trade descriptions act - i.e not fit for purpose!!) Have now got an issue with the love seat and they have basically said they only guarantee the interior foam for 1 year - something that was £800 - do yourself a favour and go to DFS, you can get 1 a year then !!!!

Hi I bought a corner sofa from them about seven years ago, When it arrived I was thrilled until I sat on the sofa and realised they had sent the sofa with firm seat cushions when I asked for soft cushions.. I got in touch with customer services, They sent soft cushions out to me without the covers,, I had to take the covers off the firm cushions it was a struggle, Then I had to put the covers on the soft foam blocks That was an even greater struggle,,,,From then on in the sofa was never right,, In the end I sold the corner sofa for a fraction of what I paid,,,,I was not happy and their customer sevices did nothing even though I complained,,,

I bought a sofa and chair from M&S delivered 2 months ago. They both have problems with the seat cushions sliding forward and needing to be adjusted many times a day. I am waiting for a FIRA technician to come and see them but am not holding out much hope of a resolution. I previously had a 20 year old sofa and gave it away to get the new one. How I wish I hadn't! M&S furniture is nowhere near as good as it was.
