how long would it take your cleaner to do this?

Just trying to see if I am getting a good deal or not.

Cleaner comes reliably, will do whatever I ask her and is relatively speaking a reasonable price (£6/hr) - but I think she may not need to take quite as long as she does. Also she doesnt do some of the things I want doing as she would run out of time if she did them eg dirty hands on walls, doors and doorframes, tiles in kitchen or bathroom.

On the other hand, I need it doing and if she charged a slightly higher rate and worked for less hours I would still employ her.

Anyway I pick everything up before she comes - how long should this take:

bathroom - clean toilet, basin, bath, mop floor

quite small kitchen - sweep, mop, clean counter, draining board, sink and hob (all empty), wipe down kettle & toaster, clean 2 smallish windows

lounge, utility and hall - sweep and mop, hoover rug, clean the other side of the 2 windows, clean both sides of patio doors (have very grubby toddler!!!)

I was going to say 1.5-2 hours max - I could probably do it quicker but it's hard to say when we don't know how big rooms are

she is taking 2.5 hrs but really is hanging around for the last quarter hour. she looks like she has been working hard when i see her, but who knows what she is doing when i'm out of the room?

Id do that for a teener Grin - those are relatively easy tasks - are you sure you need her?

Difficult to say, sometimes you think that somebody should be able to do things quicker but if she is doing a good job then I would leave it. When we do something ourselves we know what we can skimp on ie not move the settee one week or whatever, a good cleaner will move a settee to clean underneath. Ask her to do an hour extra and do the extra jobs. Good reliable cleaners are hard to come by .

Im a cleaner.

You notice the things she hasnt done rather than what she has. You get your whole downstairs cleaned for £15 and our moaning? uhm.. Hmm

To be honest, paying her 6 quid an hour is hardly a strong motivation to work quickly. I don't think 2.5 hours is too much for all those tasks.

I think she's doing fine. If you think she is just hanging about -- why not ask her to hoover and dust a bedroom in addition?

I dont mind a little bit of hanging about as I cannot get it done myself, she is working for a living and she is only asking £6 an hour.

Yes!! I could list what she hasnt done but I dont want my original mindset to change - I have only had her about 6 weeks and I always intended to be pleased with what i got rather than looking for what I hadnt got!!!

If I did it myself and worked hard and fast it would be about 1.75 hours of hard labour (those windows with toddler hands Grin) - but I guess it is unreasonable to expect a cleaner to have to work like that
