Have you ever washed cushion covers from a fitted fabric sofa?

I just got a new ish sofa, person who had it before me had a dog so I want to wash it to freshen it up. It's from Next & although its a fixed cover it still has zips so you could technically remove the covers to wash them (though it does say they should only be professionally cleaned). I just washed two of the cushion covers that aren't actually part of the sofa (side cushions iyswim) to test it & it seems to have come out ok, I'm just worried that washing the main cushions might make them hard to fit back on in case they shrink as they are already tight.

what do you think I should do? Any advice? Thanks

I washed mine. I now have a throw over the sofa because the covers fell to pieces in the wash Sad They had zips, had zips. Use fabreeze.

I used to wash mine and they never shrank. I used to hate wrestling the cushions back into the covers though.

I washed mine - they now smell divine and have in fact made the sofa look much newer as all the cushions seem to have bounced back into shape!

Our sofa is from DFS, bright red and about 8 years old....

Did them on a low heat and dried them on the line

I've washed mine, low heat and put them back on wet. Sometimes they shrink as they dry but that way they maintain their shape IYSWIM.

I can't replace the bugger. Spring's gone in the middle so we sink, cushions keep sliding off and the throw won't stay on. Sad (sob)

Belle what kind of material is your sofa? That's weird how they fell apart in the wash, sorry to hear that. The cushion covers I washed today are the exact same material as the main covers and they survived the wash so I am hoping that it will be OK.....??????

From the folk who washed them and they turned out ok, do you know what kind of material your sofa is?

Mine feels like cotton, says not to wash, specialist clean only, but I DO! They have to be washed on very low temp and put back on damp. They can fade compared to fixed covers so best to use colour powder.

Christ knows. It was a cheap one from Argos. I was living in a student house when I was pregnant, I moved out just before he was born and had no furniture (as in not even a bed). It was the cheapest one I could find, I've not managed to replace it yet though. I thought it was cotton, very thick strands though. Don't buy a cheap sofa ladies!

Phew! I washed them today and they have come out fine! I put them back on the cushions still damp & they fitted fine. Thanks everyone for the advice!

When you say put back on Damp what do you mean ? Take them out the washing machine and put them straight back on ?
