Ironing

Hi, I'm hoping to get my ironing done when I go back to work after the summer hols. I'm trying to work out what the cost will be but the website of the company works it out by weight. Does anyone have any idea what the following will come to for £2.65 per kg? I'm hoping to get 5 shirts, 5 dresses (wraps dresses) and roughly 3 pairs of mens trousers done at a time. Any idea how much this will roughly come to?

I have no idea... I'm guessing you don't own scales?
Make sure you check that shirts are allowed as part of the 'weighed' ironing though. My one doesn't include shirts and prices them per shirt at £1.50. I used to send DHs work shirts off until I bought a steam generator iron and now I do them myself.

the scales have run out of batteries, good tip about the shirts, think I will email them. Or just bite the bullet and get a load ironed to see what it costs.

I live in London and our local ironing service charges £10 for 12 items, which I find to be excellent value for money. I always give them 12 shirts or linen things. Hope that gives you some idea of what you could be paying.

A washing machine load should be about 5 or 6kg depending on your machine - Can you get all those items you mention in one load? The trousers could well be heavy depending on what they are made of and I probably couldn't get it all in my 6kg machine.

I pay £9 an hour for mine which is probably about 7 tops and 2 bottoms (skirts or sometimes DH jeans) plus either a double duvet cover and 4 pillow cases or two single duvet covers and 4 pillowcases. Sometimes I have an item or two extra which suggests the lady doesn't use the full hour to do the average basket. I don't mind - £9 is good value. She works from home though and I deliver it to her so that might make a difference.
