I've got an antique wooden side board and can't open one drawer!

The drawer was too full so the stuff has risen up and is stopping me opening it.....
It's completely enclosed, I guess I need to get a carpenter to saw into the bottom?!!!
Shock

Has this ever happened to anyone else ever? Has anyone else ever been so stupid?

Yes I have this this problem on a regular basis, mainly due to the fact that I have many drawers full of crap highly esssential things! It depends on whether you can open the drawer at all but in the past I have tried the following tricks:

  1. If there is a drawer below the stuck drawer, empty it, attempt to stick hand up behind stuck drawer, push/wiggle/jiggle and hope stuck drawer starts to move (do not do as I once did and then get your hand stuck, it is highly undignified having DP walk into the room to find you stuck in the dresser with your bottom in the air trying to wriggle your hand out!)

  1. Stick a thin bendy ruler (like one of the 30cm plastic ones you used to use in school ) in the front of the drawer and try to press down the contents of the drawer enough to pull it out, or 'saw' from side to side to knock things loose.

  1. See above but try pushing a thick bit of card in first and then pushing down with the ruler to squash the contents.

  1. Accept that you can't remember what was actually in the drawer in the first place, therefore it wasn't important, leave drawer as it is and and if anyone ever tries to go in it claim it was like that that when you bought/inherited/found it and they're free to try if they want!

Have you tried pushing something in above the "stuff" to try to squash it down, while jiggling the drawer out? I've got a very thin metal ruler which I've used before for this kind of thing.
