Glad I'm not the only one! They sell nothing that IKEA doesn't tbh - their blind fittings are metal which makes then sturdy but so does IKEA.

REALLY overpriced and they put holes in my new window frames by not fitting them properly the first time!

VERY odd sales agent and I rang and refused to deal with him again.

The cord on a blind broke and even though it was just over the gaurantee date - it should've been replaced as under the sales of goods act it wasn't fit for purpose - they were having none of it.

NO NO NO NO NO!!!!

I had them give me a quote for plantations shutters, £5k for one regular bay window Shock Shock

No, I've never used them.

Report
sailorsgal · 06/03/2011 18:03

Definitely not. Took me ages to get my deposit back as they lied and said my shutters were going to take 6 weeks and they took over 3 months. When they arrived they didn't fit. Hmm

I then found a local company to do them and they are fab. They all come from the same factory in china apparently.

yes and yes - we have used them a few times and always been happy

Yes I've used them, and no I wouldn't use them again.
Same story as Sailorsgal - took 3 months to come when they had said 6-8 weeks. We then got accused of not paying when we had which took a bit of sorting out. Never again!

Yes and yes - we had them in to fit wooden venetians, and they were fine. But I think they operate as a franchise, so good (or bad) service in one area doesn't give you much to go on.

monty I had a quote too lol
and the bloke was quite seedy and pushy

We used them, they quoted us much more than our local blind shop quoted. I asked for, and got a 60% discount on 3 blinds. They are good quality (1 roller 2 Romans) in neutral shades, have lasted well & the Romans roll up and down nicely without 'crinkling'.

I didn't use them again because I don't appreciate being quoted silly prices.

Ninah, mine was seedy too, could have been the same one, they travel around.

We didn't use them because they didn't have an apostrophe in their name

And because they were a bit spendy. But mainly because of the missing '

Have you tried Blinds 24/7? Excellent service - really quick & very good blackout blinds.

We used them, they were great; quick, efficient etc. BUT really expensive for what they are. I'd just had DS and TBH I just wanted it sorted, but we spent over £400 on kitchen blinds Shock

Never tried, have gone with webblinds several times; not sure if they offer the same sort of thing? Always been happy with them.

Used them in our old house, too expensive for what they were but having them fitted was great because DP is useless not very good at stuff like that. Havnt and Wouldnt use them again as they are too expensive. Had no problems first time round though, sales people and fitters were both excellent

I second that emotion! Stay away from Hillarys Blinds!!!
Had the absolute worst customer service I have ever had, plus I ordered loft window blinds in Jan, eventually fitted in June, flimsy, cheap and nasty and atrocious salesman.
I took real delight filling in one of their customer service questionnaires,VERY truthfully, but have never heard anything since. Angry
I really have been shocked at just how bad such a well known and seemingly successful company can be!

Just remembered my creepy sales guy used the loo every time he came here WITHOUT asking first. That seemed very rude imo!

No i haven't and wouldn't, i had a quote off them for wooden venetian blinds, had a quote of a local company which was over £100 cheaper for the same blinds, when they rang to see if i wanted to go ahead i explained about the cheaper price and they price matched it straight away. I would prefer to use a company that offers a fair price from the start, not a company that would try to rip me off 1st.

Wish I'd read these first. Just signed up for shutters and awnings and due to terrible service tried to cancel 9 days after the order. Anyway long story short but does anyone know what the usual deposit is? We're now being told having paid in full on our credit card (which we're in disput with) that the deposit is 50% anyway. We were told 10%. Any help gratefully received, we're in touch with our credit card company to try and extract ourselves from this whole sorry saga.

Yep, we used them twice in our old place, and have just ordered some for our new house. Due to be fit on Thurs. No complaints about service or price and the quality was excellent. The salesguy that came about the new blinds was very nice and efficient.
I'm always a bit Hmm about the fact that their blinds are always 50% off but I think the price is fair.
I think they are a franchise, which would possibly explain the varied service.

leochi, we paid 50% deposit, the remainder is due to be paid on fitting.

If you're confident you can measure up yourself, try web blinds, which are Hillarys but without the home service. And cheaper.

We had a quote from them for conservatory blinds when they were advertising their 50% off deal. The blinds we liked were not in that deal but the creepy salesman (is that in the person specification to work for them?)gave us a quote for an alternative that was in the offer. He said it was going to be £950 which I thought seemed very reasonable for pleated blinds for a medium sized conservatory. He then said that he had made a mistake and they should be £1900. Salesman was then shown the door by dh - he was still trying to get a deal as dh carried his sample books out to his car. As you can probably see dh becomes very hostile when we get any crap from sales people - he's so mild-mannered usually!!

We're now going with a local company - got a cheaper quote for a better quality product and a salesman who came in, measured, gave us a quote and then left us to think about it.
