Reccomend a good plughole unblocker!

I'm so fed up of showering in an ankle-deep puddle of soapy water...the plughole has become so blocked up with mank. I've tried squirting bath cleaner down it, flushing it out with boiling water and ever Immac Blush (DH and I both have long hair)

What would you reccomend?

A plunger and and bit of arm action!

Failing that, unscrew it and clear it out.

Tried the plunger - I don't think it's an actual blockage, just built up shampoo etc... Blush

Cover up the over flow with a cloth and whilst doing this have a good unblock with a plunger. Use a piece of wire or such like to haul out the debris that comes up but not all the way out of the plug hole.

I use this in our shower and it seems to do the job - you can get it in most supermarkets.

Chuck most of a pot of bicarb down it then follow with a large bottle of white vinegar. Froths up a dream and should dissolve away most troubles.

As a student we were always getting the plastic covers from disposable razors stuck down the drains in the communal showers, and that caused blockages. Just a suggestion that it may be more than just usual gunk if you still can't clear it?

The Mr Muscle drain unblocker has always worked for me. Orange bottle in most supermarkets.

I second the one meep linked- I couldn't remember the name but it's brilliant.

Incidently, as you both have long hair, brushing it out before you shower/wash it will reduce the amount that ends up down the plughole.

works for me Smile

Marriednotdead: that would involve a lot of body-brushing for many dh's! Grin

My cat pulls all the hair out of the plughole

Soda crystals - chuck down a good half bag. Then following with 2 kettles worth of boiling water. You may need to repeat 2 or 3 times if it's really bad. The washing soda is cheap as chips too - this is the stuff I buy in Morrisons.

Ugh. Not a nice thought.

If you both have long hair, I find that Mr Muscle/ washing soda etc won't clear the blockage if it has really built up. Unscrew or pull out the little metal bit from the centre of the drain hole, then fish around with a wire coat hanger or long metal skewer and you will probably find a large lump of matted hair & soap residue comes up. After removing that, then try the washing soda and boiling water. Bit yukky, but very satisfying once you have done it!

Meep wins! And an honorable mention to marriednotdead...
Buster Bathroom plughole unbblocker was awesome!
I tried the bicarb/vinegar first but the drain was too manky blocked for that to shift it - will probably use that as a prevention than a cure now because it made the bathroom smell all vinegary like a chip shop

Thank you good housepeoples of mumsnet Grin
