how do you kill fleas/mites from a sofa?

Found a lovely sofa on the street a few days ago, but it's covered in pet hairs. I myself am allergic and DD's asthma can be triggered. Wondering how best to 'sterilise' it before we bring it in to the house.

Will vaccuum but that wont kill any fleas/ dust mites. Is there a cheaper way other than calling in a professional company to steam clean it?

thankyou!

Go to a vet and get spray for the fleas, spray it while its outside cos its evil stuff. But I would go for a steam cleaning as well if my DD was asthmatic.

Indorex spray from your vet (or similar) make sure it's from a vet or it won't be anywhere near as good. As your DD is asthmatic make sure you use it outside as it's pretty potent!

Oh get it steam cleaned fgs.

Or hire a steam cleaner from the dry cleaners and do it yourself.

The sofa cost nothing - can't you spend a little on making it hygienic?

Don't spray it with insecticide! You have a dd with asthma.

We finally succumbed to a professional when our home was infested and it cost £40. We had spent at least £30 on sprays and powders before we got to that stage. Complete false economy.

His stuff was much more powerful, lasted the 3 weeks needed for the life cycle of the fleas, and didn't stink half as much.

It might be worth giving a pro a call for a quote first.

Glad I posted! Really had no idea you could hire one from a dry cleaner. And also assumed a professional clean would be over £100...

thanks all
