Made to Measure Curtains

I have paid about £300 to have a set of made to measure curtains put up at my back patio doors which are 90" wide, however after I have found that there is an unsightly seam down both sides where the fabrics has been joined, I have contacted the supplier and they have said this is usual as the fabric only comes in certain widths. Is this right? He get very irrate about the whole thing and suggested that I was simply trying to get money off, I want a pair of curtains that actually look as if they were made to measure and something I have put together myself. Thanks everyone

Fabric comes in a width of 40 somthing inches or 54 inches wide (genarally speaking), so to make a pair of curtains 90" you would need to join two bits of fabric together fo each curtain. It shouldn't be unsightly...it should be pattern matched and not puckered though, but would be sewn by machine.
Did you buy them online or at a shop?

Thanks for coming back, I bought them from a shop, the seam is ouckered and the pattern does not match, so I assume I can go back to them with that. I am not sure how to deal with the issue and the shop owner and fitter seams to think thats ok.

When they sold you the curtains did they say that they would be hand made or machine made?

Have they tried to match the pattern or just not bothered at all? If they have not bothered at all, then that is really a bit cheap of them because they would have probably done it to save fabric.

Did they make them on the premises or outsource them? If they outsourced them they could go back to the curtain maker (or start using a decent one).

IMO decent made to measure curtains should have a weight in each bottom corner of the curtain (and if you are being proper about it on at each seam at the bottom). Have a hand stitched lining (secured inside where 'that' seam is) and definitely be properly pattern matched.

I'd go back TBH.

I must admit I didn't know to ask any of those questions and no they are not wieghted either the lining is not seamed or sewn to the seam. I will definitely go back, you have given me some bullets to fire, I am very grateful as the guy was quite bullying this morning. Thankyou very much :)

Good luck! he's no doubt being a bully because he bloomimg well knows he's in the wrong.
