Does anyone have a mattress topper

on their bed. Have been looking at some, our mattress, isn't all that comfy, and rather than get a new one, thought we'd try a mattress topper.

Yes. I do because my mattress is so old and we are too poor to replace at the Mo. It's from Dunelm Mills and while I am sure it is probably made from poly-wotsit, rayon-acrylic it feels like the softest fleece of a ickle baby lamb...recommend.

We have them on all our beds. If you have an uncomfortable mattress a topper will not solve the problem. Sorry.

We have a Debenhams memory foam one.

Nice and squishy but we had terrible headaches for months(on a nightly basis),couldn't work out if co-incidental or not.
We had to keep removing it for weeks at a time.

There are some internet articles about this kind of thing.

The mattress hurts my muscles - or at least it doesn't help my Fibro.
I wasn't sure if we should get a memory foam one or a feather dck down type?

I do and love it but I suspect if your mattress is a bit knackered this isn't going to really help I'm afraid.

We have got a memory foam one, think ours was about £40 on Amazon.

It's really comfy.

However, last year we shelled out £400 for a new, very firm mattress. At first I was horrified at the price but DH had been suffering with back pain for a couple of years and was having to take anti-inflammatories on a daily basis. We bought the mattress and within a week his back was fine and has been ever since. It's made a massive difference.

Thing is it's not knackered as such, it's only 2 years old, it's jut not very comfy

We had a matress that was too firm and uncomfy. We bought a cheap memory foam topper and it is fab! They stink to high heaven when you first get them but the cover comes off for washing so soon freshened up a bit. I wouldnt be without it now, i took it off to clean during the good weather and that night i got no sleep, couldnt wait to get it back on lol.

DD has a memory foam one (it's about 3 inches thick) from Dunelms on her bed as her matress wasn't that comfy. She now has the most comfortable bed in the house - it is unbelieveably comfortable.

Markstretch - if you are still there, do you mind me asking what mattress you bought? This is exactly our position - needing something for a long time bad back.

Re memory foam toppers - is it wierd getting used to memory foam? Any feedback on what it is like much appreciated.

DH keeps saying "get a new mattress" or whatever, but the problem is, until you try (and try for a week, or two) how do you know if it is any good?!?!?

Thanks. Smile

Memory foam topper from dunelm. Superking size and the best £140 I have ever spent. It is like sleeping on a bed of marshmallows. Only problem with it is I took the cover off it to wash it and it shrank.

I got a memory foam one through Amazon
It did takes ages to get rid of the initial smell. I now find it comfy afterrhinking it was too soft at first
I do find that ours slid around a bit so sewed on some ribbon and tied it under the mattress
I saw Tescos were doing them and got one for DD1 as she tends to get achey muscles and joints. So far shes happy with it

We had a spare duvet and that worked fine as a topper on an uncomfortable mattress!

We've got them on 2 beds and they made a huge difference. Transformed tired mattresses into really comfy ones.

Mine were from John Lewis and I didn't notice any odd smells.

Only downside is that dh finds them too hot.

I bought this mattress topper from Dunelm Mill for DS to take to university. He says it is very comfy. When I bought it back in the summer it was cheaper and not called a "Teddy Bear Mattress Enhancer". I'm npw considering buying one for holiday use - though I usually use a spare duvet under the bottom sheet.

I have to disagree with Pope.

Our mattress is old and crap. The topper has made a huge difference. It was from John Lewis for about £140.

We have a Flexcell Coolmax topper on the double mattress in our caravan and it has transformed it. The mattress is only 2 years old but uncomfortable; now it's fab Smile

We also have a superking memory foam mattress at home. I still adore it after almost 3 years - one of my best ever purchases.

I heard a BBC consumer radio programme last year talking about some new type of mattress topper that didn't make you too hot at night. It was called Zonesleep and the consumers on the programme gave it a rave review which the company obviously put up on their website, which I keep looking at as I sleep incredibly badly.
So I'm tempted but it is very expensive compared to other memory foam mattress toppers but I tried them and they are TOO HOT. Has anyone out there bought one and could recommend it as actually being cooler than the others as they say it is??

Rattles,

I have a Zonesleep topper. I'd been searching for some time before I heard the BBC review you mentioned. I was a bit skeptical as well because of the price, but was willing to try anything to get a better nights sleep.

It has made such a difference, my old mattress feels completely different and I don't find I overheat at all. I'd say on the grand scheme of things, for what it does it is a relatively small price to pay...

I hope this helps you decide... :)

I have john lewis ones (not the memory foam) absolutely gorgeous at first but they do squish down and go flat. My DP thinks bed is too soft but I can finally sleep - our v expensive mattress was only 1 year old but I could feel lumps and bumps. Got some for the kids too which they love.

However many years ago when I had a superking bed and could not afford a new mattress we used
a spare duvet on top of the mattress and it basically performed the same function at a much cheaper price if not quite so much pile.

Thanks Sleeptight,
You've made my mind up, I'll go for it.

I just want to add that since I bought myself a memory foam pillow I haven't had any migraines.

I have a memory foam mattress - it is devine and I love it very much. I am very hot in bed [snigger] but don't find it hot at all to sleep on.

Did anyone have problems fitting a fitted sheet over the mattress with a new topper?

I bought a topper but ended up taking it back as my fitted sheets wouldn't stretch over it.

We have a memory foam mattress topper on a hard mattress and it works really well. We've also got memory foam pillows which support my neck when I'm lying on my side (I have broad shoulders) - although every now and then I have to switch to a normal pillow for a night or two as the memory foam pillows occasionally feel too hard.

HollyBolly - I've had trouble finding a fitted valance sheet - what with the topper, mattress and divan, our bed is so high you have to climb onto it and normal valance sheets hang about six inches above the floor.

In fact I've just ordered some fitted valance sheets from Amazon from companies who give the measurements - and there are some on there which accommodate mattress + topper.
