Hi, my daughter is doing maths (Kumon) and she's currently doing additions with numbers under 30, plus 2.
My husband taught her to count out loud, then write down the result, like:
eleven, so eleven, twelve, thirteen equals thirteen
or
six, so six, seven, eight, then writes down eight.
Is this practice good or bad? It's pissing me off because they've started on the wrong foot and when she's going to start adding numbers bigger than 2, this is going to be a drawback.
My argument is that she should rather do it more automatically, in her head, so the whole process should be pretty much from the memory but use her brain for these steps, if this makes any sense.
