Helping year 7 dd with spelling?

Dd is in year 7 and their English teacher told them all to work on something for homework before exam week. dd was told to work on her spelling, but I'm not sure how to help her. She always gets full marks on formal spelling tests but as soon as she has to write a story/essay spelling goes out the window. It really annoys me and she just says she just forgets spelling and is really bad at it. She's good at all other aspects of English, just not spelling. Any ideas/websites to help. Thanks in advance.

No advice, but Dd1 (yr 9) is exactly the same! Gets 20/20 each week on spellings tests, and some very hard words I have to say! Totally goes out the window when doing actual writing work!

Same here with my Dd, now in year 10! She gets pulled up about it every parents day, but hey ho, hopefully she'll realise and take more care.

Your daughters need to develop their proof-reading skills- which is easier said than done for some when looking at their own writing. Encourage them to read over their work as they write - rather than at the end- so they are not over-faced or run out of time/steam.
