My son is diagnosed with Aspergers, ADHD, Sensory integration disorder, anxiety but I have just been refused an assessment for the second time. He has not been in mainstream since July this year as I pulled him out because things got so bad for him, and I watched him go backwards, become withdrawn, angry and agressive. He at present is home educated as I still cant even get a day a week in a special school as the LEA who does not know my son has said no. My Son is now 11 and I wondered if anyone could give me some advice about being successful in a statement and/or ideas about how to home educate successfully. Please help

Hello JDibdab
Can't help with the Statement as we thought we were really lucky in getting out of school before any statement was issued.

Have home eeducated three children through teenage years with a mixture of SEN in including ASD, Severe Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyspraxia and severe anxiety.

The very best thing for my children was to allow them a period of complete deschooling to get the stresses and problems related to school out of their system (and mine) and to have time to regain their interest in learning.

Deschooling for us then became informal autonomous learning-which has suited ours all the way to A level/Open University course, but for others a more structured approach has been right.

Have you found the Home Education Special Needs webpage? and the related Special Needs Email support group www.he-special.org.uk/content/joinhere.php?
Real experts on home educating children like ours, hang out there-the parents who are actually doing it.
Some folks there have perservered and gotten statements but others have either not bothered or not gotten one. There will be folks on there who can advise and answer your questions though.

Hope that helps a little.

Do you want to HE or are you just doing so because the LEA have failed to offer your son anything suitable?

this looks great.

(I'm not religious, but plenty Christian Home Ed stuff is helpful to all)

Have you asked social services for help? There is support for families with disabled children, but is too little stretched too far. They might be able to refer you to local voluntary services even if they can't fund anything themselves.
