Online A Level’s?

Hello,

My 16 year old DD has struggled with school for many years now. But she managed to do well in her GCSE’s, but anxiety and ASD has made Sixth Form unbearable. She’s already not sleeping and crying at the thought of going back Monday.

She fine at home though, so I think maybe online studying would be best for her. Smaller online classes would be less pressure for her. She’s currently doing History, English Lit and Classics. Could anyone recommend and online school or company? I think if she changes now she still maybe able to sit the exams in 2021.

Many Thanks

@sleepismysuperpower1 she’s doing OCR for Classics but AQA (I think!) for History. To be honest she could start History over, she has time I don’t think it would be too much of a problem. Thank you ever so much

Hi, I know little about the subject but I do know that you need to ensure you choose a subject / exam board combination which isn't inaccessible due to coursework or controlled assessments, and that it can be a struggle to find an exam centre. So don't sign up to any distance learning until you are clear that your daughter will actually be able to sit the exam for which she is preparing!

This wiki provides an overview. I don't know if it the A levels page is completely up to date after recent changes to A levels, so best double check. You can join the relevant Facebook group to ask questions there. he-exams.wikia.org/wiki/A-levels

Join your local home ed Facebook group to ask about local exam centres. It is tricky to find one which accepts private candidates. They can change their policies from year to year. So you might have to be ready to travel some distance to sit the exam, and perhaps sit different subjects at different centres.

@saracen that is super helpful thank you! I was concerned with what would happen to her coursework. So I think she’ll have to start over. Thanks for the link, off to read up now.

We’re in East Anglia, so even if we have to go to London it’s not too bad.

ok, London brookes college accept private candidates, so it would be worth phoning them and see if they can accommodate all her subjects (they should be able to)

Both English Lit and History have coursework elements.
This makes it more difficult to arrange. Few centres can offer the marking and if you found a tutor to mark it externally they have to be someone the exam centre has trust in. The link to the exam wiki that Saracen have is worth a read and the fb group linked to the wiki is worth joining, I am pretty sure there are members on there who have done Alevel history.
Probably the best option is to use somewhere like NEC which will mark the coursework and has partnership with exam centres that will recognise that. I have no personal experience but NEC seems to be the one that is mentioned favourably for Alevels on the HE Exams FB group. But worth joining the group and getting some feedback.

Classical Civ I don't think has coursework so you could buy a textbook and self study that one if you prefer just need to sort exam centre.

Thank you @sleepismyuperpower1 and @itsstillgood really appreciated. I’ll make some calls tomorrow and see what I can find for her. But that gives me a great starting place.
