We're not doing anything formal for either subject. Just looking at topics as and when DS is interested, eg we did local topic looking at our town, inc its history and geography. He wants to learn about Stuarts and castles and Mexico. So these will be covered by just reading books and watching documentaries. Nothing formal but still learning.

We do also use the Twinkl website for printouts of worksheets.

If you’re desperate for workbooks CGP have ‘Stoneage to the Celts’ and ‘Romans in Britain’ for that age group. You need the activity book and the study book which gives the answers. You could build projects around those with the addition of visits, books, documentaries etc.
They also do a Discover and Learn Geography for years 3/4 with the same format.

We’ve done the history ones with lots of additional material, craft activities, trips to Hadrian’s Wall, books by Caroline Lawrence etc. For geography I tend to build my own project from scratch, Googling something like ‘Brazil printables for kids’ or ‘Coastal erosion printables’ then disappearing down the internet rabbit-hole that results - making lists of local visits, YouTube videos and printing colouring pages/diagrams/graphs etc.

The Story of the World is a nice overview of history suitable for KS2. It's 4 books that you read aloud and there is an activity book with lots of ideas, colouring pages, maps etc and a 'further reading' list of fiction and non-fiction books for each chapter.

It's an American course, so books 3 and 4 have more American history than we would normally do in the UK but it does cover world history. You can get them on amazon.

You may find some useful ideas on //www.resourcemouse.co.uk as it's a UK site but I think the study guides may be for slightly older children. Nice cross curricular stuff though.

Evan Moor do a set of resources on the different continents, which are nice. Again, they are American. Or if you sign up for a weekly newsletter with school.express, you can get a free resource each week and a lot of those are geography based.

If you're in the North East, a home ed mum runs short 'courses' often based on history and they are fairly cheap and good fun!

BBC has loads of stuff for history, with animated clips, games, artefacts to look at etc. Google BBC history KS2.
Year 3 normally do Stone Age ( stonehenge, Skara Brae, cave painting ) and Romans in Britain, including Boudica. There's loads of arts and crafts activities available online, and try local museums for local history - they always have stuff you can download, and most do guided or self guided visits.

For geography an atlas is all you really need!

Visit interesting geographic sites eg sand dunes, glacial valleys, rivers, etc

You can get good kids books about volcanos and earthquakes.

Or subscribe to national geographic kids.

Get weather measuring equipment and keep a diary of recordings.

Use ordnance survey maps to go walking.

We use books that are based in different time periods and places - and then use this as a background for discussion and further learning, depending on what catches their imagination.

There is a 'Charlotte Mason Conversations UK' facebook group which is for parents interested in home education using 'living books', which you might find helpful.

As mentioned above the CGP study guide/workbook for ‘Romans in Britain’ has been very successful here and we are about to start ‘Stoneage to the Celts’. The year 3/4 Geography books in the same series was NOT a success. Very dry and we have now abandoned it. The CGP Rocks and fossils workbook is great (we are a third of the way through) - no accompanying study book for that.

This is the first year we have used work books and the CGP ones on the whole have been good (excepting the aforementioned geography - we are going back to the old ways for that Grin !)
