New compulsory registration proposals

It had to happen. Whitehall has put forward proposals for compulsory registration of home education in a new public consultation. It also proposes to take a much more litigious approach with early court action for parents who refuse to supply information to local authorities on demand:

Home Education – Call for Evidence and revised DfE guidance

There has been a quick response from campaigners:

Parents hit out at plans to increase oversight of home education

Neil Taylor responds to the DfE’s latest assault on freedom in education

The consultation runs until 2 July and is a lengthy read.

My own opinion is that the Government will back down if there is a really strong response from home educators. If not - then expect to be regulated and inspected with all that entails.

I think it is long overdue myself.
Thanks for the link to the survey. I've completed that.

One of the proposals is consulting children to see if they feel HE is suitable means of education for them, presumably they'll also start asking children in schools if they feel school is a suitable means for their education. You know just to ensure fairness!

I just wonder where they think the funding for all this ‘oversight’ will come from.
