My son is doing the CIE 0500 English language, sitting that in a few weeks, we haven’t used an online provider, just the book.

You can do IGCSEs via CIE or Edexcel boards, and for a few subjects you have the option of regular GCSEs too. It doesn't matter which boards you use - the qualifications are all worth the same - but do check you have an exam centre that will do CIE (Cambridge) before buying resources for their syllabuses as it's harder to get an exam centre for those.
