Hi
I have recently been thinking of homeschooling my 4 nearly 5 year old son, and now have made a decision that I do want to do home education with him. It's a little difficult as his my only child ( I'm sure all you mums out there know most children do so much more and are more encouraged with other children around),
So I was just wondering if there's any moms out there with a child around the similar age or younger or older doesn't matter( my child has not hit the level he should be at - according to schools/ children of his age, due to many different factors) he does not no his phonics nor reads or write < this I will be teaching him myself in Shaa Allah by his own pace .
Anyway back to the point any mummy's out there who have children at a similar level and would love to meet up / have sessions with the kids please reply back also as I am so new to this and haven't even started home schooling would be so much help
Thank you my loves Smile xx

Hi Jasminena!

I am not in your area but I've had a look and found this Facebook group for you: www.facebook.com/groups/573718422756962/ I should think that would be the best way to find other families in your area.

Have fun!

Hi Jasminena,
I know my super late to add to this thread but just wanted to say I'm in the same boat; I too have decided to homeschool my 4yo. Your son must now be around 6 or 7 now? Are you still homeschooling? If so, would love to connect with you x

Hi, and welcome to home education!

I am not in your area, but I just want to alert you to the fact that your borough's Elective Home Education team is known to make unreasonable demands of home educating families. They've made quite a reputation for themselves!

They are likely to get in touch with you soon to ask about the provision you are making for your child. When they do, the safest course of action if they have phoned up is to ask them to write to you instead. That gives you time to go find out whether what they are asking you to do is legally required, and decide how you want to respond.

The usual advice is never to ignore a communication from the LA altogether, as they might take that as reason to escalate to legal action. But you don't necessarily have to do what they ask. The law is on your side. You could either challenge the legal basis of their demands, or provide them with information in a different format from what they requested. For example, you don't have to fill in any forms, send in samples or photos of your child's work, or accept a home visit. You can send a report instead so as to keep them safely at arm's length.

You may like to join this excellent Facebook group for legal advice: "Home Education and your Local Authority: Help with dealing with officialdom" www.facebook.com/groups/239232119524989/permalink/3091327507648755/ The admins are fantastic and will help you draft letters if you want.

I have been homeschooling for 2 years now. I have a 4 year old, a 3 year old and a Baby 1.11. I have an Instagram account homeschool_experience where I share resources, tips, tricks and advice on how to teach phonics to kids as young as 3, maths, reading writing, Arabic and Islamic studies. I am still learning and would love to learn from other mums too.

Where in London do you all live. I live in East London. Towerhamlets and Newham is where I am based. I would love to join or start up a social events club for homeschool mums where kids can get together for reading activities, baking and sports while homeschool mums share resources and helpful advice. Please let me know if anyone is interested

Thank you Saracen for the advice. I've made sure all is written only and sent a brief summery report to them. They didn't ask for any work to be seen so that's all I needed to do for now.

Hi all,

I've literally just found this thread. I have been homeschooling since September 2020. My son is 7 years old and I have a LO due soon. I love homeschooling but have been wondering if realistically I'll manage. I am originally from TH but moved to Essex about a year and a half ago and am seriously considering coming back to the area for various reasons family and sons activities/clubs etc... are all based in TH. I'm just not sure if I want him to go back to school but I also know that it might be easier for him to be back in school especially with a newborn. I'm thinking about maybe researching some online homeschools. Any suggestions or anyone in a similar situations?

Thanks
