I need some advice on how to start home ed.
We are going abroad for a few months which means my dc have to leave the school my they are at.
I didn't want to have to leave but I cant be granted authorised absence for so long so I have to leave then try to apply when I get back. However I'm not particularly bothered if they go back !
They are in yr s 6, 5 and 2. I have applied for secondary for my eldest (he definitely wants to go back to school) but for others I would consider home ed long term if it worked out.

If I don't have something in place I fear I will be fined. How do I go about setting it up, do I have to register somewhere (local authority ?) or what ?
Help!

You will firstly need to write to the head, but you are well within your rights to home-school. Please see link below for accurate advice.

If you need help with home schooling resources, let me know.
Have a good day.

If your children attend a state school in England or Wales which is not a special school, then you just need to write a properly-worded letter to the headteacher. You don't need permission from anyone, and there is no notice period required.

It will all be on Facebook these days. Search for groups with the name of your county or the nearest big town or city, plus home Ed or home education. When you request to join the group, keep an eye on your message requests folder, because the admins usually ask you to confirm that you are genuinely a home educator or aiming at being one rather than a random weirdo ☺
