Help me with DS's GCSEs

I had a thread on here a while back about HE for my DS age 15.
He's been at home since September.

Because of work commitments, but mostly because of DS's difficulty with just about all written learning, I haven't been very good at home educating him. We just rely on GCSE Bitesize for almost everything - he likes the interactive element.

I feel that it's too late to do a lot of child led learning - his GCSEs are looming and since he's been in mainstream school until this year, I think we should be just concentrating on trying to get him through his Maths, English and Science (though I think we'll be lucky to pass all three).

He is still registered with the school as they were hoping that he would get a place with the PRS which would give him 5 hrs one on one tuition a week.
The application process is still ongoing.

I don't know if Bitesize is giving him anything like enough as I can't check what has entered his head and he refuses to to take notes. He just records his quiz scores.

I feel bad because DS is just left to his own devices so often - but I have to work.

Sorry posted too early - I wanted to ask if anyone knew of any other good resources specifically for GCSEs.

I did an AS level at college, I only met my tutor twice and the rest was me working through the NEC material. The courses are not cheap but you might pick up the books on Amazon or ebay

I just had a look at the site - £395 per course? Wow. Can't afford that at all. And the books they have for Eng Lit aren't the same as the ones we need to study (Welsh, DS is still registered at school so will sit his exams there).

Does he have Sam learning accounts and my maths accounts from when he was vat school. if so they maybe helpful

What board is he doing?
Have you looked at on line learning communities? Or private tutors?

My son is teaching himself A2 philosophy and Ethics with a private tutor one a month.

If he's still on roll with the school, what is the school doing to help and how is the school currently marking the school register, for example are they saying that he is absent with a sick note or that he is being educated offsite or what? Have you asked the school to send work? Have you contacted the local authority?
