I'm mesmerised by houses with these deep navy or emerald walls...didn't like them at first, but now I think they are stunning.

What about you?

For a well placed splash of orange, it takes a good eye too use it well but when it works I love it! Like a bold orange sofa in a groovy lounge.
I have been mystified by the grey everything fashion, does not light my fire at all.

For me its more about how the colours are put together.

Totally depends on the house! I love the Matt mid/dark blue in my bedroom but it’s quite bold and only works because the room is massive. It would look terrible in a small room.

Same as you op Navy and Emerald Green.
I used to go wow if I saw red in someone's house buy don't anymore.
Someone I know has an all White House. It always looks so clean and stylish. I used to think that you had to add a splash of colour but now realise that you don't. She has White curtains, White sofa with White rug etc.
Years ago I'd have thought oh you can't do that you must buy a blue or pink rug to break it up etc

One thing i don't like is plain walls then just one wall painted or wallpapered

Unless you've actually painted a mural on the wall, I'm not going wow.

(And no, I don't want a mural on the wall. I'm just saying it takes more than a striking paint colour to really impress me.)

Period houses decorated sympathetically to their era.

Something perfect for the people who live there, rather than something done to be ostentatious or keep up or be “impressive”.

Although I like uplifting things rather than the “tasteful” colours, sometimes the “wow” colours and patterns seem like they’d be hard to live with, kind of too much for the brain to process, so not relaxing.

But I’m more enamoured of the homely things - I’d much rather a kitchen with kids “artwork” blu-tacked to the wall and happy welcoming vibe than Crittal doors, F&B painted units (inchyra), etc, chosen by someone who “loved parquet flooring before it was fashionable” (much like I loved Wham before they were famous....).
