Stairs - huge empty walls

The way our stairs fit means that there is a huge expanse of wall. We painted them white last year but as they show every scuffmark I want to put something on them . I’m thinking the cliche gallery wall near the top of the stairs but I don’t think that’s going to work at the bottom where the wall goes from the top of the house to the very bottom. I’ve Googled but can’t find anything

Any ideas?

Mural wallpaper. I spend ages dreaming about which I'd choose. I think eventually I'll go with a world map in the study.
