New kitchen

So finally after 13 years my husband has agreed to a new kitchen ☺️ the kitchen is the original house was built 2003. Please give me your experiences things you wish you had done or not done in the whole planning fitting etc I'm really clueless as to where to start. We had an app today with one kitchen company and one tomorrow. Thanks

Oh goodness I am in the same boat. Almost exactly the same period of time in our house and finally got enough money to re-do our kitchen.

May I ask who you are thinking of using for the kitchen design?

Hello yes of course we visited the kitchen depot today and visiting wren tomorrow. I'm a bit overwhelmed already! Tonight I've read that ikea is actually one of the best for kitchens? Where are you thinking of trying ? ☺️

There's a little local place and then I was going to try Wren and Magnet Kitchens.

I am very sad that I was actually won over by the advert!!!

No I'm exactly the same !! And the magnet advert got me as well ! I'm literally obsessed with looking at any kitchens right now. It's such a lot of money I want to get it right.

Went to Wren really really good prices brilliant highly recommend so far !

Wow, fab, but when do they work out what will fit in the kitchen you have got?

Just a word of caution to be careful with wren, a few people I know have really been stung by them in regards to fitting, 4K!
Damaged items and damaged base units worktops etc.
Take a look at DIY kitchens if you're up for planning it yourself! Takes the middle man out so comes up a lot cheaper, so much choice too! The planner is great

Nikki I’m going to echo what cosmo says above. I’ve heard lots of cautionary tales about Wren being a bit of a nightmare and expensive when it comes to fitting. As she/he says, do look at DIY kitchens.We had a new kitchen with DIY units a couple of years ago. The quality was high and it looked fabulous. We then moved and inherited a quite new Wren kitchen. The quality is pretty poor in comparison I really miss my old (new) kitchen and am currently planning a new one which we’ll hopefully get in about a year.

With DIY you have to plan it yourself and find your own fitter but the price is excellent for the standard of units. They come fully assembled so fitting can work out cheaper.

I found the mumsnet thread ‘kitchen lessons learned’ invaluable and my finished kitchen was definitely better as a result of having spend hours reading it. I can’t find it now but have found this which is an update from a year later and probably distils all the most useful advice.

The single best bit of advice I took away from it is to have deep pan drawers wherever possible rather than standard cupboards. Makes such a difference as everything is so easy to find - and looks good.

Good luck and have fun - getting a new kitchen just how you want it is very exciting (Now sitting here wistfully thinking about my last kitchen...)

Cosmo30 Thankyou very very much really appreciate the advice I have to say i do worry about rushing in. We haven't agreed to anything just yet with Wren so I will show this to my husband and we can discuss it more. Thankyou again ☺️

Singingbabooshkabadly Thankyou very much as well really appreciate your advice. I will also have a look at that thread beside deciding on anything. I get very nervous making big decisions so it's good to be as prepared as possible. We are using our own fitter he has been well recommended so I'm happy with that part of it just need to get the right kitchen!

I've also heard lots of bad things about Wren. My own experience wasn't great as they were so pushy and then refused to actually discuss it with me when I said my kitchen wasn't ready yes as a new build and just wanted to push for an appointment to come out and measure and quote.

A 'ballpark' figure, based on the kitchen size was half as much again as DIY kitchens for the same number and type of units.

DIY come ready built and you use your own fitter. There showroom is near Pontefract and fabulous is you can possibly get. There is an online planner and although they don't do your plan they will suggest improvements and highlight anything you may have missed either in person or by email.

I loved playing with their planner and trying out different layouts.
