What would you do with this dining room? Need help!

There isn’t any room in the kitchen for the fridge, so it has to be in there, and the furniture has been recently given to me for when I moved in a few months ago, but I could just do with some ideas on how to make it look a bit nicer please!?

It's hard to see from the photo, but is there a way you could have a door over the alcove where the fridge is, so that you can't see the fridge?

And can the coats go anywhere else?

The windows would look much better with full length curtains.

It looks very "empty", as in walls & floor are empty.
Maybe a couple of things hanging on the walls & a low wall cupboard along one of the walls??

Are you in a rental? Couldnt you make a cupboard or something to cover the fridge?

It’s a rental, so can’t make too many changes. The coats are on the back of the kitchen door (I should have closed it for the photo) .
I do need to get some photos, and yes, definitely new curtains!

The room looks a bit lopsided. I would try the table in the middle or turned the other way around. If I liked it I think I would put a large rug under it.

Definitely put the table in the centre of the room and make it the focal point-nice jug/vase of flowers on it and maybe even a nice white tablecloth?

Luna this is with the table moved round, what do you think? Where could I put the small table?

No turn the table back around I think but definitely move to the middle. Put a nice runner on the table and a centre piece as someone else has said. Put some nice pictures or a mirror on the chimney breast (if you can't make holes you can get sticky tabs that are amazing). And a rug under the table, coordinate that either the runner and new long curtains. Does the small table need to be in there?
Can you upcycle and paint the dresser, that's quite old fashioned? Same for the dining table?

I don't think that little low table is very nice, to be honest. Could you get rid of it?

The room looks much better with the table moved into the centre. I second the idea of full-length curtains and the rug, and I think the room needs some colour. It does look bare. Put a picture on a wall.

I’ve just taken the small table out, I’m going to look for some curtains and a rug, and get some pictures.
I’ll have a go at upcycling the dresser and dining table, I’m just worried about messing it up!
Thank you for all of your help!

I think that looks a bit better. Definitely longer curtains with something on the table in a similar colour.

I think Maybe it looks quite harsh because it’s so linear so maybe some fabric to soften it - chair cushions, rug, long textured curtains

Much better already!

You've got a nice room there but maybe too much empty wall space (especially as the ceilings are so high).

As others have said some pictures and rug under the table would make the room more cosy and lived in. A splash of colour through a large picture on the chimney breast would give the room a focal point. Alternatively, you could have four evenly sized pictures if you don't want the weight of a large picture. At the moment the colours are all too similar with too many different shades of brown.

Consider limiting the brown to a single shade and pick an accent colour from a central focal picture and then follow through in the curtains and accessories. Green (particularly botanical green) or orange would go well with the rustic orangey brown of the dining table.

Maybe paint the dresser black to go with the backs of the chairs or in whatever accent colour you decide to go with.

Agree the lamp table is too low for the high ceilings you have and it the curtains would look nicer if longer.

Oops sorry didn't see the last picture - proportions look better.

Hi op! Great idea I might do this with my some of my rooms. First the dining table should be in the centre of the room and move the little table out of the room and the coat thing even if it's just the other side of the door. Money allowing I'd buy a massive statement rug from George at asda (about 40 quid for a big one) I'd paint the whole room matt white, replace the curtains with some ikea velvet ones that reach the floor, move the fridge freezer to the other alcove and cover with a room divider so it doesn't hide the lovely sash windows

Wow yes that last picture looks 100% better!

Thank you all! Thank you for the tip about Asda, I hadn’t thought of there. I’m thinking of a pale wedge wood blue?

That's a fab room. It just needs a bit of tic. I like the position of the table in the last picture.

Pictures, tablecloth, vase of flowers, a rug and curtains and you're grand.

Looking at that first photo, the wall colour works well with the carpet and the tones in the room are nice. The table and chairs is lovely. I agree that floor length curtains are needed, and a picture or two. A floor rug would be nice. Although I'd start with the curtains and pictures, plus a vase of flowers on the table. That may be enough.

I would avoid blue as it won't give much contrast. I'd probably go for pink and salmon shades, or a touch of orange, or maybe lighter garden greens. You could try a light lilacy blue.
