Hi,

Need to replace flooring in downstairs of terrace house (kitchen, living room, hall, front room).

Thinking of darkish wood/wood effect.

Can anyone reccomend something that's robust enough to survive toddler years(cars, crayons, paint, scratches).

Thanks

We have solid bamboo flooring. It's lush. Comes in lots of colours and very tough.

Check out the karndean website, they do samples too. We’ve had dark wood, light wood, light tile effect, all very kid friendly and all very durable. I’d recommend until the cows come home! (I saw “wood” and “tile”... it’s all vinyl)

We had Amtico in our old house. It went awful and shiny, was dreadful to clean. It was a right mess. There is Karndean in the new house. I don;t actually know anyone who has had Karndean who has a bad word to say about it.

Had Karndean Vogh Gough and it was amazing stuff. We moved house 10yrs after putting it down, but it still looked good and the house buyers thought it had been done recently. Admittedly, we did every year strip it and reseal it as advised, but the Van Gogh Range is def worth the money. We are about to lay it in our new house.

@sahbear can you recommend a decent quality bamboo flooring?

I'm interested in this too, OP. Keen to go for something sustainable suitable for kitchen , living, dining and conservatory . Current options for us are cork, bamboo and rubber.

We bought ours from The Bamboo flooring Company www.bambooflooringcompany.com
And got the matching skirting. We chose natural strand woven for durability. I love it.

I have the same flooring as sarbear. It's been down 10+ years and looks fab. Also bought from The Bamboo flooring company.

@skippy67 @sahbear really like the look of that. Did you do it yourself or hire a fitter? We have the whole downstairs to do so it would be quite a DIY job.
Any recommendations of different types? I ordered samples from another bamboo company and the product was surprisingly cheap - under £20 psqm which sounds great but would be good to compare quality.

Fitting was quite expensive. We used a flooring fitter for the kitchen diner who charged about £400. The rest of the downstairs was fitted by carpenter who charged a lot less but was just as good.

I can't remember which samples we ordered before settling on the strand woven. Fitting was about £1.5 I think for the whole of our downstairs, except the kitchen.

We're in SE London so fitting might be cheaper depending on where you live.
