Home office decorating ideas - blank canvas

Our home office is the final room to be decorated in our house, after 13 years, despite it being one of the most heavily used, especially now & I am not going back to the office for ages (ever?) it seems.

Time has come to decorate and sort out but I can’t think what I want.

It’s about 12 x8. NW facing so dark in the morning, a bit of sun by end of day. High ceilings & picture rail. Large window overlooking the garden. Rest of the house is not slick / modern, more comfortable, cottage feel. Farrow and Ball throughout if that helps.

Sometimes I think I want a bold paper, maybe a green fern / orange. Sometimes I want a navy type thing. DH fancies oak panelling (not happening!). I don’t want a boring old office. We will probably replace flooring, furniture, the lot so there is nothing that needs working around beyond the basic dimensions.

Please let me know any ideas or random thoughts you may have! Maybe a fabulous wallpaper that’s caught your eye?

I’ve painted ours (it’s very very small but light) in a (very unfashionable) bright raspberry pink. it feels energetic and interesting, and different from other rooms in the house. But...If you have endless Zoom type meetings then really you need a “professional bland” backdrop...something pale green/blue/etc with white, will look calm and not distracting in meetings.

I'd love an energetic, interesting room! A study could be an ideal place to use that colour you love.
I do endlessly zoom though...
Planning to surf F&B wallpapers today & order some samples.

If you want bold coloured walls etc. but also need to have a professional background for zoom meetings you can buy fold away screens? for around £75.00 on Amazon. I hope this helps

You could go mad on the ceiling like here: Mad About The House. I have spent lockdown reading this blog, I love it, and now have loads of ideas for this house.

Love that gold ceiling!

I’m not that bothered about having a bland background for zooming. I want a room I love!
