I've decorated our living room. It's west facing and is mainly used for chilling watching the tele (with a bit of DJing and virtual Zumba classes now Wink). I'm totally stuck on lampshades! I thought navy but DH pointed out these are too dark and don't let the light out. Rattan would go nice with the floral wallpaper but is too much with the gold wallpaper. Green leaf print? Pink wouldn't work. Glass is too kitchen-y. Help!

Something one colour and light, a simple one, maybe cream - you're right you've got lots of other colours/textures so it would be too much probably to add something new again with the shade.

Copper if you want a statement?

Must admit most of my lampshades are those cheap paper ‘balloon’ type that I bought quickly as a temporary fix ... been in this house 10 years now!

You have so many patterns going on already, just a very simple plain one I think. Pick out one of the lighter shades from your floral paper.

Why not a similar pink to the sofa cushions? I would stay away from any print. I think some natural texture would go well - I don't agree rattan wouldn't go with the gold wallpaper (but hard to tell) as you have wood doors so it would be in that range of colour (you can get dark rattan), plus something natural would go with your nature themed feature wall.

Copper as someone else suggested

Wow. Thanks everyone.

Copper- was worried it would be too harsh for a living room and I'd need a soft, fabric light. But I do love copper!

I lie that habitat wood one. It's a similar feel to the rattan ones I've been looking at. They'd go great against the floral wallpaper but I was wondering if they'd blend in to the plain wallpaper too much.

I agree with maybe a light one. Again, would it blend in to the plain wallpaper too much. Not sure about pale pink.

I'm happy to change the cushions and I don't like the armchair but can't afford to do anything about that at the moment. Maybe I can put a throw over it instead?

I'm intending on putting lots of foliage plants in there to soften it all up as well

I love the French Velvet and Drum Silk shades in Habitat.

Drum Silk in white

French Velvet in grey

Linen shade in grey

I really love Drum Silk in Ink

Lots of fabulous colours on the Habitat site.

I love a velvet lampshade. Do you think a dark velvet shade would block all the light?

Do you intend to use the overhead light that much? I don't use mine very often so it doesn't matter about the light.

You just have one feature wall, don't you? So anyone walking into the room would look past the lampshade and out into the garden. I think if the window wall had been the feature wall it wouldn't work, but the way it is it should be fine.

My sister has those silk shades in white on big table lamps and they are really lovely.

What about this one? It's lined with copper, white cotton on the outside. The copper would suit the room.
