Should I treat myself to new curtains?

I'm supposed to be saving money. Which, by default of not going out, I am.
I've already treated myself to a large new plant for my garden which looks glorious and I'm so glad I bought it but with spending most of my time in doors now I've realised how much I dislike my lounge curtains. They were left in the property when I moved in. I have since redecorated and they are just functional. They bring nothing to the room other than shutting the world out. They are plain dark brown with no lining and are getting faded from the sun. There is nothing wrong with them, but... can you tell I want you to tell me to go for it here when out of boredom last night and looking up new curtains I found a website that does V&A William Morris made to measure curtains! I love William Morris! They are £350. A lot of money to me, but from googling old MN posts about costs of curtains perhaps a good price? What do you think? Should I go for it? Extravagance at the moment does feel really wrong.

It IS a lot but they're WM curtains which are classic and should last years.

Faded brown curtains with no lining are not good for your soul OP. you need to buy the new ones.

Go for it! We got new curtains just before lockdown and I am so much happier staring at ones I actually like.

Just to say that lots of places offer William Morris curtains, Style Library own the Morris & Co brand. So you could try a local curtain maker if you are after made to measure (not all are working during this time but some that can practice social distancing are)

Came on to basically say what @CadburySpira said. Lots of people who do dress alterations (ie for wedddings) also make curtains and will be glad of the work right now. Provided you can measure properly, I can't see why they can't make you some, although you might have to source your own fabric.

Having said that, if you are at all inclined to learn, then curtains are very easy to make. The hardest bit is working with such a large volume of fabric. (you can always do a practise run with some cheaper fabric for a less public room!) There are also huge savings to be made. I once bought some fabric and made some curtains for a set of french doors, the fabric was from a place that does seconds and one-offs cheap, so all in (fabric, thread and accessories) was £30. I happened to be in John Lewis six months later and found the same fabric (with the pattern printed at 90 degrees, that's obviously why mine was a second), where a short pair of curtains for a window started at £180.

I've got fabric on order to make myself some tie up curtains for the living room windows too! Hate the hideous roller blind, and they seem very easy to make (I'm not bad with my seeing machine though). Looked at WM but gone for a gorgeous jungle pattern instead. Never made curtains before though..
