Trying to organise myself a home office.

Before lockdown, I bought a really nice desk from Ikea - the Linnmon desk top with Alex drawers. The desk top is really long so I can keep laptop permanently on one half and have room for working on the other half. I really like the desk and the chair I bought to go with it but looking for inspiration re colour schemes. Also don't know whether to leave it where it currently is, under the big window (but blocking a radiator) or move it across the other side of the room so it runs along a wall and maybe install some shelves above or something.

If creating a home office is a path you've trodden before me and you can share pictures, I would so love to see them.

Here's ours. We did this Ikea desk too. Works really well. DH needed two monitors and space for his xbox Hmm. Desk, shelf and clock all IKEA. Chair John Lewis but 2019 I think.

What colour is your Linnmon desk top OP?

Didn't want to post our actual office as it's too outing, but I based the look on this photo. I went for a monochrome scheme. You could do this and then add a few accessories in another colour eg millennial pink, or just keep it monochrome. The difference from this photo with ours is that our Ikea desktop is black. We also have white Alex drawers at one end and the Ikea A-frame legs at the other end. The walls are dove grey. I bought wall mounted string shelves in white which are great and really versatile, to which I have added some pot plants and monochrome files to tidy away paperwork. There is also another space on the wall above the desk where we've got a wire mesh frame noticeboard, and a framed map of the world. We have a cheap copy of an Eames dining chair and some sheepskin rugs. With the Alex drawers it's been easy to keep the desk top tidy and looking clear of clutter. I love working there!

I would make use of your empty wall and move the desk across.

@FrancesFlute@ Thanks so much for your pic. That’s a beautifully decorated room and excellent use/positioning of the desk! It looks really lovely. I bought the longer desk top so my OH can also use it when he needs to work from home now – which is why I think the desk would be better placed along the wall, to provide a distinct workspace for each of us. Your layout is exactly what I had in mind. Thanks.

@mountainwalk@ For some reason, can’t view your pic. My Linnmon desk top is white. We bought everything white thinking it would look clean and crisp but to be honest at the moment it just looks cold and sterile - Flute’s oak desk top looks so much warmer. Moving the desk across to the wall and adding a long shelf above to hold a couple of plants, maybe a print or two and some smallish books would improve things so much. The monochrome theme you describe would be easy enough to do and I like the idea of adding in a pretty colour somewhere as relief. I too am also hankering after a wire mesh frame noticeboard and framed map of the world to go above my desk Smile

Thank you both so much Flowers

Not sure how to post pics but will try - it's been taken over by DD since she's been off school but I have a before pic!

Not the best pics, couldn't scroll back to 'before'! And it's dark. It's just in my kitchen diner.

@Rainbow@ Unfortunately can't see your pics either Sad so not sure if it's just me or something the site does with pics - on some threads I can see some of the pics posted but not others so no idea why that happens, but thanks for responding Flowers

No problem, @mintcrisp! Before we decorated, the desk was under a window blocking radiator. We would get boiling using it - heat from PC and radiator! We moved to other wall when we redid and it's much better.
We have a navy feature wall, other walls white. Beige carpet and white bookcases to match the Alex units and shelf.

Do you need shelves?
How is the lighting in the window ie will it blind you at certain points in the day? Or distract you?

I have a garden office, all wooden (walls, floor - smells great!). Nice long Ikea desk with a couple of drawers.
